It is without a doubt that Willow Elementary School has been for years, a staple of unity, culture, and equity throughout our San Ysidro communities. This is why it was imperative that we carefully selected, with utmost attention to detail, love, and understanding, a leader with a big heart for Willow.
Our new Willow Elementary School Principal Mrs. Myrna Cerda can proudly call the South Bay her hometown. Mrs. Cerda grew up in San Ysidro and had Willow, Sunset, and La Mirada as her landmarks while en route to middle school, where she would later begin discovering her passion and calling for education and student success.
A few of her multiple academic achievements are her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences Degree as well as her Teaching Credential from San Diego State University. In 2016, Mrs. Cerda obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of San Diego, and subsequently in 2020 an Administrative Credential from SDSU. Most recently, completing the Association of Latino Administrators & Superintendents Academy.
As an Educator for the past 18 years, Mrs. Cerda has been an Elementary Classroom Teacher, an Impact Reading Teacher extending her professional presence serving as an Administrator Designee, Instructional Leader, Professional Development Facilitator, California Distinguished Schools-Chair of Writing Committee, Co-Lead MTSS/PBI, Peer Assistant Review Support Coach, Curriculum Writer, and Tier II Impact Teacher for primary and upper grades.
We would like to extend our warm welcome to Mrs. Myrna Cerda, who now joins our San Ysidro School District family, and wish her a successful transition into her principal role which she will take on starting Monday, April 22nd.
