July 2024 Newsletter

As you can see from these images, Welcome House Raleigh has begun the summer with so much joy. Our shared ministry is all about connections. Connecting with newcomers, connecting with civic partners, connecting with ministry partners, connecting with non profits, connecting with volunteers, connecting with landlords and employers and teachers. Connecting with neighbors. We believe that God has called us to community and so we work each day to strengthen and broaden those connections. We believe that the Holy Spirit compels us to link up and live with a joy that finds its center and heart in love. We believe that when we follow the example of Jesus and welcome the stranger life changes for the better. What a Joy!

I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my father I have made known to you. John 15:15

Welcome Back Matty Grace!

Fresh from her college graduation, Matty Grace is with us again this summer! We are so grateful for her. Building on connections she has made in previous summers, she will be directing a summer camp at one of our local recreation centers. Please pray for Matty Grace as she heads up this vital work and as she discerns and grows into her future.

Celebrating a Shared Ministry through Welcome House Network!

In June we were able to recognize Linda Jones, Cindy Hood, and Barbara Best as 2024 Global Impact Volunteers at the annual gathering of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Linda coordinates the work in Winston Salem, Cindy leads the effort in Tennessee and Barbara is one of our own here in Raleigh. We are blessed beyond measure by their dedication, wisdom and grace.

Rolling out the Welcome Mat

Almost every week we are setting up apartments for refugee families. Through the generosity of people just like you, we are able to furnish and outfit these first homes in the United States. Sometimes we set up 3 or 4 apartments. The work can be messy and sweaty, but it always feels very sacred. Assembling a dining table where a family will eat at and share stories from their new jobs or from their new school. Hauling in a sofa that will welcome new friends and offer a bit of comfort. Making beds where families will rest in safety and in peace. All of this feels and is very holy work - we invite you to join us.

Would you like to be apart?

We are in need of the following items:

composition notebooks

Chinese Checkers, Uno, other board games

toothbrushes

toothpaste

feminine pads

toilet paper

hand soap (individual bottles)

shampoo

conditioner

laundry detergent

paper towels

There are other ways you can share with Welcome House and our guests. Please visit the Donations Page on our website for information on how to donate a week's worth of groceries, give financially, or share your gently used furniture.
