A Note From Our Founder
Hello to 2021! A new year. A fresh, clean start and the end of the pandemic. That is my hope.

Even with 2020 behind us, our work is not done. We still face challenges and changes.

The ASPCA shared new data showing that more than 19.2 million pets in the US live in households that are not presently current on their rent or mortgage payments, placing them at risk of eventual eviction or foreclosure as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. This includes more than 9.8 million dogs and cats living in rental homes and 9.4 million dogs and cats living in owned homes.

Every day we receive calls to end the pain and suffering of pets that belong to the homeless. One pet at a time – we strive to provide financial assistance so that healthy and pain-free pets remain with their homeless moms and dads. We are keeping the bond of animal/human love alive with your support and gifts. Whether that be a gift of funds, pet food, supplies, or your time.

Here are a few highlights from this year we’d like to share with you:
  • Over 660 ill or injured pets treated with veterinary care
  • Over 1040 veterinary hospitals in our network
  • Average cost $333.64 per case
  • Total spent on veterinary care over $300,000
  • Over 113,300 pounds of pet food and supplies donated and delivered to food banks across the country
  • 114 sleeping crates were shipped to homeless shelters so pets could be allowed with their humans

You are the heart of Feeding Pets of the Homeless®.

May the new year bless you with health, wealth, and happiness.

Success Stories
Your generous donations at work
Maverick
Post Falls, ID
5.18.2020
A woman has been homeless for the past five years in Post Falls, ID, living in her car, with her dog, Maverick, a 6-year-old neutered male Pit Bull Boxer mix.

We were able to help her get Maverick treatment for a mass on his hind leg.
Locci & Tigger
Pomona, CA
8.7.2020
A woman lives in a tent in a crevice of a big box store in Pomona, CA. She called Feeding Pets of the Homeless when she heard about us through a friend.

She called when her two kittens, Locci and Tigger, were having issues.
We Ship Crates
In 2010, the National Coalition for the Homeless Winter Services report found 700 people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness are killed from hypothermia annually in the United States.

In 2021, the pandemic will exacerbate these issues. The country is facing an explosion of individuals entering the homeless system, and many will enter with pets.

To help, you can ask your community homeless shelter to allow pets. Let them know we will ship sleeping crates for animals to them at no cost.

Staff Member Highlight
Genevieve Frederick
President and Founder

As Founder/President, Genevieve oversees finances and day-to-day operations, writes grants, and supervises the executive director.

Genevieve's pet is Cookie, a Maltese Mix. Her beloved Kaiya, an English Setter, recently passed away.

We asked Genevieve why Feeding Pets of the Homeless is important to her and this is what she had to say. "My passion for the pets that love us without judgment is enormous. Their unconditional love deserves all we as humans can offer. That means to me that no pet should be hungry or in pain."

She added, "I was most impacted by an early case of a veteran whose only family was his dog. He had tried to call other nonprofits for help, but we were the only one who answered the call immediately and was able to save his dog’s life. He was so thankful and his gratitude has stayed with me. We saved his life too by saving his dog."

When asked what 3 words she'd use to describe Feeding Pets of the Homeless, she responded, "Compassion, nonjudgmental, and involved."

"I wish others knew that most homeless with pets care more about their pet than themselves. I fear that more elderly are headed into homelessness when social security and pensions cannot cover rents and the high costs of living along with their medical needs."
