I hope your summer break has been a time of relaxation and joyful moments!

As we prepare for the 2024-2025 academic year, I am excited to extend a warm welcome to all our returning and new students, along with their families, to Mt. Lebanon School District.

There is much anticipation and excitement for students to return to our schools on Tuesday, August 20 for grades 1-12, with Kindergarteners beginning their Mt. Lebanon School District journey on Thursday, August 22

Our dedicated team of educators and support staff have been working diligently to prepare for the academic year, creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs of our students. While our classrooms are quiet, our facilities team has been working hard to prepare our schools for the new year and we thank them for their hard work.

Educational excellence and our students' well-being remain our top priorities. This year, we will collaborate with our staff, families, and community to create a strategic plan that will guide the future of MTLSD. I look forward to the opportunity to build our future together.

Enjoy your remaining summer break with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming our students, families, and staff back soon.

Sincerely,

Dr. Melissa Friez

Superintendent of Schools

Welcome From Our Assistant Superintendents

As the assistant superintendents of Mt. Lebanon, we are committed to fostering and supporting the educational journey of every student in the District.

On behalf of the entire leadership team, we look forward to seeing all our students and their families very soon! For the upcoming school year, we have made a schedule adjustment for students receiving education in Spanish. This year, students will receive 45 minutes of instruction per week. Further, the elementary team will be working on the following projects:

  • Reviewing our Elementary program
  • Develop a MTSS program
  • Select classes will be conducting a pilot of Science instructional resources in preparation for the implementation of new state standards
  • Continuation of ELA program review

This work will result in recommendations that will be used to develop multi-year action plans for continuous improvement of our student experience.

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. As we return to our academic routines, I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm for the opportunities that lie ahead.

Our dedicated team of faculty, staff, and administrators have been working hard to prepare for a successful year, ensuring that we provide a supportive, engaging, and enriching environment for all our students. We are committed to fostering a culture of learning, growth, and achievement.

I encourage you to stay involved, communicate with our teachers and staff, and take advantage of the various resources and programs we offer. Together, we can make this school year a remarkable and rewarding experience.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Publications & Annual Notices

Mt. Lebanon School District develops annual notices for parents/guardians and students. Please review these documents prior to the start of the school year.

School Handbooks: Our school handbooks cover the basics from activities to homework and key procedures. Our handbooks are broken down by elementary, middle school, and high school. Included in the handbooks is the District’s behavior expectations, explaining how the District handles matters of conduct and discipline consistently and fairly. Copies of these documents can be found below on our website.

Annual Notices: Various federal and state laws mandate that school districts provide students, parents, and the public with annual notices, many of which must be issued at the start of the school year. These annual notices are available on our website

Safe Walking Routes & Crossing Guards

The Mt. Lebanon School District takes pride in being a walking school district. Every year, we partner with the Mt. Lebanon Police Department (MLPD) to promote safe walking awareness. At the start of the school year, we emphasize safe walking rules with students, and the MLPD has even established Safe Walking Routes for each elementary school. We encourage you to review these routes with your child regularly throughout the year.

For MLPD safe walking routes and rules, visit our website

Our Crossing Guards help to ensure the safety of our students and pedestrians in the community. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming a crossing guard, information is available on the Municipality of Mt. Lebanon website.

Technology

Technology plays an important role in your student’s education and provides our parents/guardians with important information.

MTLSD has been designated by Google as a Google Reference District. This means that our students from Grades K through 12 are given MTLSD login accounts which synchronize with Google to provide them access to apps.

At Mt. Lebanon School District, we utilize two important resources:

  • PowerSchool: The District's Student Information System (SIS). A SIS is a centralized record system that manages student data, including enrollment, course registration, and final grades. Before the start of the school year, please ensure your contact information is current in PowerSchool.

  • Schoology: MTLSD’s Learning Management System (LMS). A LMS is a centralized online education hub where educators create and manage lessons, assign quizzes, and assignments, and grade student work. To learn more about Schoology, visit our website

Student Devices

  • All MTLSD students in grades K-5 are issued a device for their learning at school and home. Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade receive iPads, while students in grades 2-5 are issued Chromebooks.
  • Students in grades 6-12 are required to bring a non-cell phone device with them to school every day.
  • If you would like to borrow a device for your student in grades 6-12, please submit a request

MTLSD Equipment Protection Plan (EPP)

  • For all District-issued student devices, families have the option of purchasing an Equipment Protection Plan (EPP). The EPP is OPTIONAL and is NOT required. The EPP will cover a single 1:1 District-owned device for the 2024-2025 school year - starting on July 1, 2024, and concluding on June 30, 2025.
