Journaling Tip:
If you're a writer, consider the benefits of keeping a journal. Write an entry about how journaling has given you a strong foundation for your writing life and craft.
If you have never tried journaling before, write an entry about what you hope journaling will do for your writing in the future.
***
Q: If you could choose one benefit you have experienced as a writer with keeping a journal, what would it be?

My most significant, current benefit as a writer has been writing down inspiring ideas for blog posts and ways to organize my other writing projects. I have used journals to write manuscripts!

You're welcome to reply to the weekly journaling question; I may share it in a future edition of Refresh Journal.

THE ARTIST
I recently found an artist, Geninne, whose blog has a wonderfully artsy, whimsical look where she shares her artist life from the inside. Lots of colorful photos of her studio and her art.
The link is a post on her blog of a watercolor rendering I found delightful.

What do you find
Delightful?

Special Thanks to:

Jen Knox, writer, teacher, and workshop facilitator,

for recommending #JournalChat

and my website's Journaling resource page from my website for her recent library journaling workshop.

Refresh Your Home
It's funny how when you go away for a long vacation or just a weekend, it feels good to be home when you return. With this summer season, perhaps a small time away will give you the boost you need bring a new appreciation of the benefits and blessings of where you reside. As Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz said, "There's no place like home." Now, where are those ruby slippers?
Refresh Your Work
I recently ran into this quote by Ernest Hemingway in a Writer's Digest newsletter: "All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know." When I thought about this quote, I realized it applies to any work you do. Being true to your calling and your work in life is essential to your sense of purpose and well being and makes for a firm foundation. You can never know what a difference you'll make in a life when you do this. Be true to yourself in all you do, but especially in how you make your mark in the working world.
Refresh Your Kids
I have a special link to share with you this week. My daughter, Hannah Joy, is the founder of Radio Disney Club where you can find videos, music, movies, and audio book reviews for kids for all things Disney. Hannah strives to keep it G-rated so all kids can feel safe browsing through the Top 30 Countdown as well as other fun Radio Disney stuff. You can also check out her YouTube Channel
Refresh Yourself
This week I've got a food-related link for you to check out: The 3 Veggies with the Least Nutritional Value . In addition to what it shares about the least value of nutrition for your bite, it also gives you worthwhile alternatives that may work better for you. After all, you are what you eat. Why not make most bites pack as much nutritional punch as possible, and enjoy it while you're at it! Happy munching. :)
If you have a refreshing tip you'd like to share for home, work, kids, or yourself, feel free to share it by replying to this email; I may showcase your tip in a future edition of Refresh Journal!

Highlights from #JournalChat Live

This week's #JournalChat Live was fabulous as we discussed how journal writing can be a strong foundation to creative writing.

Here are some insights I shared from my personal journaling as being a foundation to my writing life:

#Journaling helps me keep a strong foundation in goal setting and keeping as a writer, since it holds me accountable.

One of my favorite benefits to #Journaling as a writer is ideas that come to me that work their way into my creative writing.

Whether it be articles, blog posts, or book ideas, I have used my #Journaling as part of the framework for my writing life.

Here's an insightful reply from Patsy Terrell:

"We all find time for the things we want to do. I blog, journal, etc. because it helps form and clarify ideas."

Here's an inside view from Catrina Hamid:

"I used to journal about everything; now I generally do it to get ideas on paper and work out the kinks in my mind!"

And one more inside view of journaling in my writing life:

When I write a journal entry on a topic I'm writing about, when I feel it in my gut (intuition), I know I'm on the right track.

Journal Writing is a great way to create a firm foundation for your writing life.

Join us next week, 7/21/11, at 4 PM CST/2 PST for the next session of #JournalChat Live. Topic is in the box for Pick of the Week.

Check out the Transcript for #JournalChat Live on 7/14/11.
Special Thanks to Dave Hood for his insightful and informative article which was the source of our #JournalChat Live topic of Journal Writing being the foundation of Creative Writing.

JournalChat Pick of the Week:
I am absolutely delighted to choose a fabulous topic based on Monique's post on how journaling helps build confidence in our decision making for this week's topic on #JournalChat Live.
This particular topic really hits home for me since I have experienced the same benefit from my own journal writing practice.
We all need an extra boost of confidence when it comes to making decisions. Knowing that journal writing can be the catalyst to help us learn to trust ourselves more, as Monique shares in her post, can be a serious motivator for keeping a journal.
For our chat, we will discuss how journal writing can make all the difference in helping us build the confidence we need to feel good about the decisions we make for ourselves as well as our families.
You're welcome to read this article prior to the Live chat on Thursday, and perhaps write an entry about your experience with how journal writing has helped you build confidence in your decision making. You're welcome to share any discoveries you've made during our chat.
So join us on Thursday, July 21st at 4 p.m. CST(2 p.m. PST), for JournalChat Live on Twitter as we open a discussion on the how our journaling practice can help us become more confident decision makers!
I heard about this new song by Demi Lovato, Skyscraper, from my daughter, Hannah. I've watched it several times, and it is truly ground breaking. It is a song of hope in the midst of being torn apart and broken. Instead of giving another person or circumstance power, you can rise up from the ground like a skyscraper, which has to have a firm foundation to exist.
