March is Women's History Month!

March is Women's History Month, a time to reflect on the contributions women have made in history and contemporary society.

We're also excited to celebrate the incredible women who are making a difference at Mission Africa. In the coming weeks, we'll highlight those who are passionate about advancing our efforts in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, locally and globally.

We look forward to showcasing these mission-focused women with you!

We kick off this week by getting to know the heroines of our organization, whose tireless, behind-the-scenes work is the backbone of our success.

Ndudi, Akunna and Ketsia, we salute you!

Praise for Our Volunteers!

As a volunteer-based organization, we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who has ever volunteered with us. Here in Washington State, your assistance with annual programs, such as our Back to School Outreach—fuses Education and Poverty Alleviation—impacts entire families. Additionally, your efforts during our 'Smiles at Christmas' event are invaluable, enabling parents to provide gifts for their children during the holidays with dignity. In Nigeria, you support our annual Medical Outreach and scholarship students, ensuring that we can deliver essential medical care to remote villages in need. Thank you to all of you, whether you are a seasoned volunteer or plan to volunteer in the future. Together, we are changing lives, one person at a time.

UW Medical Workers Office Visit

Last week, we were happy to host Jillese and Daniel in our office. Jillese and Daniel are UW Medical Community Health Workers who met with our Project Manager, Akunna, to discuss how they can collaborate with Mission Africa to get resources to the community. At Mission Africa, we believe in the power of partnerships and what started off as a conversation at our African Community Leaders Luncheon led to this wonderful meeting which is sure to have a ripple effect on our community. Thank you Nkem, for the connection, and thank you Jillese and Daniel, for your dedication to the community.

Youth-In-Tech Recap

A glimpse into our Canva adventure!

We had a full house of excited kids at our Introduction to Canva workshop where children ages 11-15 learned how to use this cloud-based graphic design program to learn introductory design skills.

This class was made possible thanks to the volunteer trainers who were willing to teach and a grant from the Equity in Education Coalition of Washington that funds our Digital Navigation program.

Community Corner: Meet Daniela!

Enhancing computer skills amongst our youth

Daniela and her family immigrated to Washington state from Germany. She, along with her siblings and cousins, began attending our Digital Navigation classes. Already a bright young lady, she enhanced her digital skills becoming proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Daniela and her family were a pleasure to have in class, there is no doubt she has a bright future ahead of her.

We proudly continue to offer Digital Navigation classes three times a week, supplemented by personalized one-on-one services upon request. We also extend our outreach to seniors, ensuring that every member of our community has the opportunity to become digitally savvy.

Unlock the Digital World and Master New Skills

We are offering free Digital Navigation classes to African immigrant families and refugees. Additionally, our invitation extends to all members of the community eager to enhance their digital skills. Translation can be arranged for non-native English speakers and laptops are provided for in-person classes.
