Ca’ di Raja Cuvee del Fondatore Prosecco Superiore, Italy $19.99
Ca’ di Rajo winery is ran by Cecchetto brothers, Simone, Alessio and Fabio, the third generation of a family who started the business in 1931. Located in a special place, where the Venice Lagoon meets the Dolomites, Ca’ di Rajo winery is at the pinnacle in Prosecco area. The vineyard uses a very old system of training the grape vines called, Bellussera, also known as ray system. It is an ancient system mainly spread in Veneto and developed by Bellussi brothers from Tezze di Piave (Treviso) at the end of 1800’s, in order to fight the scourge of downy mildew. In the Bellussera, wooden poles about 4 meters high are connected to each other by iron wires arranged in spokes. Each pole supports 4 vines, raised about 2.50 meters from the ground, and from each of them permanent cords are formed that are made to develop inclined upward and diagonal to the inter-row, forming a radial. Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg is one of the jewels in the crown of Ca’ di Rajo production, it’s 100% Glera grapes grown at over 300 metres above sea level.
Domaine des Orgnes Rose, France $12.99
At the end of the 12th century, the Orgnes domain was listed as a dependency of the commandery established in Montfrin where soldier monks of the order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem (who succeeded the Templars) lived. The stone markers marked with the Templar cross can still be found today. After the French Revolution, a mixed farming and livestock farm became the property of successive families. It was in 1953 that Jean de Gérin-Ricard acquired Mas des Orgnes. He rehabilitated the cultivation of vines there. In the 1960s, the estate's terroir was recognized and entered the Côtes du Rhône area. On the southern part of the Estate, at “La Fabrique” (the old mill), Joseph built a modern cellar and devoted himself to his main activity as an artisan winemaker.
