Hello and welcome to Boston University School of Public Health! We are excited to have you join our community and we can’t wait to work with you throughout the semester. The student success team is here to make your transition to the Online Master of Public Health program as smooth as possible. Please read this newsletter carefully, as there are important deadlines and sessions approaching rather quickly!

Schedule your 1:1 with a Student Success Specialist
Student Resources
Please join the student success specialist and a learning facilitator for a live session via Zoom on Monday, July 8 from 12:00pm-1:00pm ET or, July 25 from 6:00pm - 7:00pm ET. The live sessions are an opportunity for students to get to know their colleagues, connect with student support staff in real-time, and learn more about Module 0, Module 1 and additional resources. We recommend that all new students attend this orientation.

Academic Accommodations
If you had academic accommodations during your undergraduate career or you have a new physical or mental health diagnosis that would make accommodations important for your academic career with us, please start the application process with the Office of Disability and Access Services (DAS) as soon as possible.
 
Complete the intake form, and schedule an appointment with DAS by calling 617-353-3658. Once you are approved for an academic accommodation, please email a copy of your letter to Student Success. We will then assist you in arranging your accommodations for your module 1 course.
Technology Requirements
BU Information Services & Technology
Boston University’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) creates a “tunnel” between your computer and the campus network that encrypts your transmissions to BU. Use of the VPN also identifies you as a member of the Boston University community when you are not connected directly to the campus network, allowing you access to restricted networked resources.



All Online MPH courses are delivered through Boston University’s Blackboard Ultra learning management system.

Academic Information
Fall 2024 Semester Information

Module Dates:
Module 0: This module must be completed by August 22 (11:59pm ET) in order to start the Module 1 course.

Module 1: The Fall 2024 semester runs from September 3rd to December
17th, but the module will launch on Blackboard on Thursday, August 29th.  


View Registration & Invoice:
The MyBU Student Portal is a self-service website for students currently enrolled at Boston University. Through the portal, students can access many services such as their student account details, final Module grades, current class schedule, and more.
 
Accessing your Module 0 and Module 1 Courses:
All Online MPH courses are delivered through Boston University’s Blackboard Ultra learning management system. In Blackboard Ultra you will find your course content, assignments, course announcements, grade book, and direct access to the other platforms related to your assignments. Please see the next sections for detailed Module information.
Module 0 Information

Course Access & Completion Deadline:
After you have been registered for Module 0 and Module 1, you will be notified when to access the Module 0 course in Blackboard Ultra. It can take up to 7 business days. Students generally spend between 25 to 30 hours to complete this module. As a student at BUSPH, you are required to complete the Module 0 course by August 22, 2024 by 11:59pm ET.

How to Successfully Complete Module 0:
In the Foundations of Public Health section of the course, you will complete multiple quizzes and you must achieve a minimum grade of 90% on each of the quizzes. You may retake the quiz without penalty until you achieve a score of 90% or higher. You must also complete the Quantitative Skills for Public Health Assessment. You will have 1 attempt to complete it. This Assessment is designed as a self-evaluation therefore, no particular grade is required.

Course Syllabus & Course Content:

Your Fall Module 1 course, syllabus and course materials will be made available to you on Blackboard Ultra on the first day of the Module (August 29). Please check your BU email frequently for additional important information prior to the start of the semester.


Course Materials & Textbooks:

Our OL MPH course materials and textbooks are not available on the Barnes & Noble website but will be available electronically as part of your course. There are no books required to purchase for Module 1.
