UConn Campus Opens, Students Arrive August 28
The University of Connecticut Downtown Campus officially opened Wednesday, August 23, in ceremonies on the portico of the former Hartford Times building, where four former U.S. presidents once spoke.

Students begin the fall semester on Monday, August 28. Hartford Public Library welcomes students to UConn classrooms on the main and ground floors in the Downtown location. Staff from the library, the campus’ library collection, and study spaces will be part of the downtown experience at HPL.

Welcome back to school to our college students and City of Hartford school students.
New hours for The Kitchen

Starting the week of August 28, The Kitchen will be open from 8 am to 8 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hours on Mondays and Fridays remain 8 am to 4 pm.

SEP 6: Hartford Open Mic Event

Writing workshop 6-6:20 pm

A weekly open mic with a focus on poetry, promoting literacy, writing, community engagement, and ownership over words and experience both collective and individual. Open to all. Bring your best 3-5 minutes of material. Hosted by performing poet and artist Zulynette Morales. This program is a partnership between Hartford Public Library, UConn Library, and Zulynette Morales
SEP 15: Open House

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. Visit Downtown, Albany, Barbour, Camp Field, Dwight, Park and Ropkins locations during our city-wide Open House. We'll have music, activities, and snacks. We'll also be kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15); and Welcoming Week (September 15-25) with board games played around the world.

Do you know there’s another Spider Man who is not Peter Parker? Miles Morales has been Spidey in another timeline. Miles is a teenager in high school and author Jason Reynolds’ character celebrates his black and Puerto Rican heritage.

Kadir Nelson created the cover art for the book, which came out August 1.
