Greetings!

The Board of Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is pleased to announce that we have hired Adriana Abich to become the network’s next Chief Executive Officer. She will assume her role effective Monday, July 22.

After a rigorous and exhaustive search and selection process, the CNCA Search Committee and Board of Directors were particularly impressed with Adriana and unanimously agreed that she is the best choice to lead the organization.

Adriana comes to Camino Nuevo after serving as a regional superintendent of schools at the Partnership to Uplift Communities (PUC), where she was responsible for overseeing nine schools in the Northeast San Fernando Valley with a combined budget of $45-million. She joined PUC in 2010 and was the network's regional superintendent for the past four years. She brings a depth of education experience and has demonstrated that she can inspire leaders and transform schools.

Under her leadership, PUC Schools' college entrance and graduation rates increased and its schools gained state and national recognition for improving academic outcomes for students of color and students who are from low-income families. Adriana has strong relationships with the Los Angeles Unified School District and has played a critical role in securing charter renewals for schools in her district.

Adriana is not only an accomplished leader, she is also an inspiring individual who embodies and is committed to our mission. She is the daughter of Latino immigrants and the first in her family to earn a college degree. Growing up, she faced many of the academic, social, and cultural challenges our own students face. We are confident that Adriana’s experiences, insights, and expertise will add value to our work of preparing students to succeed in college and beyond.

"As a first-generation college graduate and daughter of Latino immigrants, I was drawn to a career in education to help create equity for students of color like myself. This will continue to be my guiding purpose at Camino Nuevo." -Adriana Abich, CEO

Adriana completed her undergraduate studies at Occidental College and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from California State University, Northridge. She is fluent in English and Spanish.

The Board is grateful to Tammy Stanton for guiding the organization with a a steady hand as Interim CEO during this period of transition. She will resume her position as the network’s Chief Financial Officer after Adriana joins us on July 22.

We are excited about the next chapter of CNCA and the new leadership that Adriana will bring to the organization. Please join us in welcoming and supporting her as our CEO.

Sincerely,

Cindy Lee Smet
