Welcome Back!
It’s official, the 2023-2024 school year has begun! We hope that your day has been filled with eager faces excited to meet you, absorb, and learn. As this year begins it brings both excitement and concern as buildings and classrooms look at the possibility of either adding staff or the idea of losing staff. This year is exceptionally concerning as we are all looking at the effects of the boundary changes and the conservative staffing that KSD provided.
As expected, we are hearing concerns and questions about the process for both adding and the possibility of a Fall Involuntary Transfer process (IVT) and how it may work. KEA is putting together a list of FAQ’s that we hope to share soon. The immediate response to concerns is that KSD has no plans to adjust anything this week. KEA has asked to be part of the process that will be monitoring building and class size numbers alongside KSD to suggest solutions. This monitoring will begin Friday, August 25th and continue daily through September 8th with the hope that solutions will be found.
KEA expressed concerns last spring about potential overcrowding and wrongful boundary numbers at some of our schools. KSD’s solution for this it to try to guilt educators into giving up their planning and taking 1.2 contract. This is the cheapest solution for KSD rather than providing the proper staffing in your buildings. KEA continues to ask educators to say NO to 1.2’s!! This solution hurts students, overwhelms educators, and shorts buildings of their proper number of staff just to name a few of the negative aspects of KSD’s solution. So please say NO to 1.2’s.
