Greetings!

The First Sunday in Lent saw the Great Litany, written by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer in 1544, offered at all three services. The contemporary version, apart from an update in language, remains the oldest Litany in the Anglican Communion, employed as deemed useful, but especially at the beginning of the penitential Season of Lent. The 9am English language Eucharist saw 12 persons, the 10:15am English language Eucharist saw 127, and the Noon 'Misa en Español' saw 27 in attendance.

This coming Saturday is the Synod of the Diocese of Mexico in Mexico City. Your lay represenatives are:

Hortensia Dominguez
Kathy Lapsys
Miguel Rangél
Kary Yañez Rios

and your clergy representatives are Madre Karen O'Malia and the Rector.

This is the first Synod with our new Bishop, the Right Reverend Alba Sally Sue Hernández Garcia.

"Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel at the Diocesan Synod of Mexico for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor ang glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen" The Book of Common Prayer page 818

May you keep a holy Lent,

Deacon Anthony Christiansen offers good counsel regarding the Daily Office during Lent and through the year:

“Happy are those whose transgressions are forgiven, and whose sin is put away!”
Ps. 32:1

If you are interested in saying the Daily Office during Lent, or indeed the entire year round, I highly commend to you befriending Mother Barbara Cawthorne Crafton on Facebook. She is former Professor of Christian Spirituality at General Theological Seminary in NYC and now retired in Boulder, CO. She comes online four times per day to recite all the Daily Offices with us. Remember, the (TEC) BCP reminds us that while the Eucharist is the principal celebration on all Sundays and Feasts of the year, Morning and Evening Prayer are also principal celebrations of the Church.

Mother Crafton recites the Office in a way that is both very human and quite speedy: Morning Prayer this morning was 13 minutes. It’s a wonderful way of bringing the divine into this holy season when new life is being unfolded among us.

Times are different depending upon your location. Morning Prayer is at 8:30 in the Mexico City time zone. Just turn on Facebook and Mother Crafton will appear. All you need is a Book of Common Prayer, though a Bible is helpful as well.

Deacon Anthony mentions also that a new version of the Daily Office Book is on Amazon Mexico for 70% off...about 780 pesos. A considerably more expensive bonded leather version is available HERE.
