CONFIRMATION SUNDAY

November 12, 2023

Dear George,

Our Bishop, the Right Reverend Alba Sally Sue Hernández Garcia will make her formal Episcopal Visitation to St. Paul's on November 12, presiding at Confirmation or Reception for those entering the Anglican Communion. There will be one bilingual liturgy at 10:15 that day.

Those who have prepared for Confirmation or Reception need to fill out an information form (available in Spanish or English from the parish office StPaulManagementSMA@gmail.com and return the form to the office. Candidates are encouraged to attend a short rehearsal on Saturday November 11 at 12:30pm.

Our new Sunday School Director is Rosie Stokes. Rosie is collaborating to find the best bilingual Sunday School curriculum available. Our children's sermon for December will be on December 3 rather than December 10 so the Rector may distribute Advent calendars to the children. There will be no children's sermon the second Sunday of November as that coincides with Confirmation and Reception and the Bishop's visit.

Our "Reverse Advent Project" commences in November so that we may distribute food-stuffs in the campo and to those in need in December. A bottle of cooking oil would be a welcome additional item that may be added to the items listed below. Thank you, and may you have a holy Advent Season, soon to be upon us (December 3)!

Many thanks to Hector Godoy for our new bulletin board in the parish hall, and to Elaine Sells who led a Communications Group brainstorm on Saturday November 4! Both shall consequently help us "get the word out!"

Vestry member Andrea Spessard is leading our Stewardship Campaign 2024. She could use some help. Any who wish to join the Stewardship Team may contact Andrea at alspessard@gmail.com

St. Paul's Development Project (formerly the Dispensa Project) offers free weekly English classes Thursdays at 6pm commencing 9 November with a formally trained English instructor. Coffee and tea will be offered. There is a class size limit of 15 persons. Sign up for the class (or for the waiting list) with the Administrator StPaulManagementSMA@gmail.com

The St. Paul's Development Project commences teaching tennis twice weekly to 20 less advantaged local Mexican youth on 16 November.

Grace and peace,

GFW+

EPISCOPAL VISITATION: CONFIRMATION AND RECEPTION

November 12 at 10:15am

Our Bishop, +Alba Sally Sue Hernández Garcia, will join us to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation and Reception on 12 November. There will be one bilingual Liturgy that day at 10:15am.

All baptized Christians should, in Anglican practice, move to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Reception is the process by which a person who has already been Confirmed into a branch of the Church in the Apostolic Succession (Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Swedish Lutheran) are regularized into the Anglican Communion. Their previous Confirmation is affirmed. Reception is hence a determination to practice the Faith in the Anglican branch of Christian expression.

ALL SOULS DAY / DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

November 2

A Spanish language Liturgy was celebrated at 5pm All Soul's Day at our exterior Dia de Los Muertos Altar, followed by an outside fiesta including tamales, buñelos, atole and vino. Our tamales and atole were homemade in the parish kitchen by Josefina Ledesma, Lupita Yañez, Karina Yañez and Magaly Trujillo. ¡Mil gracias to all who prepared us for such a happy fiesta! We enjoyed front row seats to the Catrina Parade wending up Cardo.

"RECLAIMING ADVENT"

A time both contemplative and convivial, the men of St. Paul's are invited on retreat to prepare for Advent, the first season of the new liturgical year.

Tertulias/presentations on the themes of Advent, a variety of liturgies, silent meals and a robust fogata (campfire) will feature, led by the Rector and other clergy from St. Paul's.

Single rooms only, with meals included for 1800 pesos per person. To register, use the Sunday sign up sheet or contact our Administrative Assistant Claudia at: StPaulManagementSMA@gmail.com

BOOK CLUB

The next book club meeting will be on Thursday, November 16th, in the parish hall. We will be discussing The Nightengale by Kristin Hannah, a book that considers the women of the French Resistance. At great personal cost, they helped to rescue Jewish children, find escape routes for downed Allie pilots and sacrifice life and love to save others. Less is written about women resistance fighters than about the men. This novel which is based on true events will be hard to forget.

If you haven’t been at any of the book club meetings, you are very welcome! We meet every third Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
