Collect and Readings for August 18, 2024 | Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

This Week

EYC Service Project THIS Saturday, August 17 at 7 AM! It's early on a Saturday morning, but we'll have fun together painting roads for the upcoming Tour de Saints. Meet at 7 AM at St. John's Lutheran in Concord. Questions? Contact Tiffany Fulton or Ragan Kearns.

Christian Formation starts THIS Sunday at 10 AM for all ages. There's something for everyone! See you on Sunday!

Adult Formation Starts August 18 at 10 AM with Rabbi Barbara Thiede Burlesque in Bible | Once upon a time, a long time ago, the stories ancient Israelites told each other were not just recited but performed. Much of the humor of these narratives has been lost in translation. And yet, scene after scene in the Hebrew Bible would be fodder for a performance in a burlesque theater. The ancient audience must have expected to laugh when these narratives were performed. Why shouldn't we? In this two-part series, Rabbi Barbara will take us through a selection of hilarious scenes in the Hebrew Bible. No need for a laugh track – we’ll make our own! Rabbi Thiede will teach on Sunday, August 18 and August 25 at 10 AM. All are welcome!

Interested in ways you can be part of youth ministry? Here are a couple ideas:

  • We're looking for Sunday School volunteers to help out one Sunday a month.
  • We always need help feeding our hungry EYC kiddos on Sunday nights. If you are interested, please sign up here!

Contact Tiffany Fulton for details!

  • The Bells of All Saints’ rehearse on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and play during the 11:10 AM service several times each academic semester. The age range is 9th grade through adulthood. Rehearsals start on 8/21.

Men of All Saints’ are invited to help break the revolving door of recidivism in our criminal justice system. AYA House in Concord offers recently incarcerated men an opportunity to succeed and reintegrate into society. The Men of All Saints’ have a great opportunity to help make this happen. Talk to Chuck Collier or Don Foskey about how you can assist AYA House in transforming the lives of formerly incarcerated men.

Get ready to ride, sponsor, volunteer! Tour de Saints is on Saturday, August 24, 2024! The Tour de Saints charity bike ride is an annual outreach event hosted by All Saints’ Episcopal Church. This community event supports local charities in Cabarrus County. Our objectives are to raise awareness about the work these charities do in our community, collect non-perishable food items the day of the ride, and generate funds to directly support these charities. Click for details about how YOU can get involved!

Grapevine | News from the Parish

Vacation Bible School was a resounding success on August 1-3! Thank you to all those who made it possible by volunteering. We had as many volunteers as kids. Here's a peek at the fun!

We offer prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Rebecca Anne Powell, mother of Karen Crotty, who entered the Resurrection on Friday, August 2. May God provide peace and comfort.

We offer prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Frederick "Buddy" George Hilbish, who entered the Resurrection on Saturday, August 3, 2024. He was 100 years old. Over his many years at All Saints', Buddy blessed this parish and the wider community in countless ways. We cherish Buddy's memory and hold his children, Melissa and George, his step-children, Grady, Dana and Shelton and all of his dear family in our prayers. His obituary can be found here.
