Military Operation Affecting Traffic in Okaloosa & Walton Counties
On Friday, July 28, Eglin Range Patrol / 96 Security Forces Squadron will be conducting a large-scale road closure in support of a test mission between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Affected roadways will be the southbound lanes of HWY 85 south of the Shoal River Bridge, northbound lanes of HWY 85 south of the SR-293 eastbound on-ramp, northbound lanes of SR-123 approximately 1 mile north of HWY 85; southbound lanes of HWY 285 south of the I-10 interchange, northbound lanes of HWY 285 at SR-293; westbound lanes of SR-293 at HWY 285; and westbound Bob Sikes Rd west of Harrell Rd (Alaqua Trailhead). This large-scale road closure will temporarily restrict the flow of north-south and east-west traffic during the designated timeframe.
Scheduled closure window is between 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Actual closure time may vary but it will be limited to minimize the impact on civilian traffic. This will limit access to the Correctional Facilities on Col. Greg Malloy Rd. and will impact response times for LE patrols and Fire/ EMS in both Okaloosa and Walton counties. Overflow from vehicles seeking alternate routes may result in increased traffic on HWY 87, HWY 90, I-10, HWY 331 and SR-20.
