Tentative Agreement Announced on West Coast Port Labor Negotiations

Last night, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association announced a tentative agreement on a new six-year deal. The details of the agreement were not released. The agreement must now be ratified by both parties.

We applaud the fact that a deal has been reached. Critical infrastructure issues such as this are hot topics at the Strategic Issues Conference, taking place in Long Beach this October 26th-27th.

BOMA California Testifies to Support Expedited Licenses for Veterans

BOMA California's legislative advocates provided primary testimony in support of AB 883 (Mathis; R-Visalia) in the Senate Business and Professions Committee. The bill, which passed out of Committee on a unanimous vote, would add participants in the United States Department of Defense SkillBridge Program to existing state law that expedites the initial licensure process for active-duty members of the Armed forces who have been honorably discharged. AB 883 ensures the Department of Real Estate will expedite license applications to assist in the transition of veterans to civilian life. The bill now heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

State Budget Deadline Today

Today marks the deadline for California to pass a budget for the next fiscal year. On Monday, Senate and Assembly leaders announced they will pass their agreed upon budget, which will need to be signed by the governor by July 1st. The proposed budget will include a deficit of over $30 billion, a drastic change from last year’s $97.5 billion surplus.

Last month, the governor released a series of infrastructure proposals which would greatly impact the budget. Senate and Assembly leaders have agreed to amend the current budget proposal once an agreement has been reached with the governor.

Why Attend The California Commercial Real Estate Summit?

"CCRES is a great opportunity to talk to elected representatives at the state level about commercial real estate issues that are affecting us directly. It was great to have dialogue with the officials in our own district and made it easier to explain how these issues directly affect their constituents. It also allows us to continue the dialogue outside of Sacramento back in their home district offices."
