Today marks the deadline for California to pass a budget for the next fiscal year. On Monday, Senate and Assembly leaders announced they will pass their agreed upon budget, which will need to be signed by the governor by July 1st. The proposed budget will include a deficit of over $30 billion, a drastic change from last year’s $97.5 billion surplus.
Last month, the governor released a series of infrastructure proposals which would greatly impact the budget. Senate and Assembly leaders have agreed to amend the current budget proposal once an agreement has been reached with the governor.
