CBPA Releases Latest Priority Bill List

With the deadline for bills to make it out of committee occurring last Friday, CBPA has refined its list of priority bills impacting office, industrial, and retail buildings and tenants.

While a major victory was achieved with the defeat of AB 1000 last week, dozens of other bills with the potential for significant impact to our industry remain in play. CBPA will continue to engage and take action on these issues to protect the commercial real estate industry.

Increased Tax on Companies Due to Unemployment Debt

With California failing to pay off its debt to the federal government accumulated due to mass unemployment claims during the pandemic, business owners are set to foot the bill. These new taxes to businesses could increase each year for a decade.

CBPA continues to support a budget item to address this, and has urged the governor to pay down debts to avoid tax hikes.

The Fight for CEQA Reform Continues

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) has long hindered much needed housing development in California. CBPA has fought for comprehensive CEQA reform for decades, as the 53 year old law has contributed to the current housing crisis and prevented job growth - hurting California's economy and driving individuals and companies out of state. The governor and lawmakers have pledged to reform CEQA, but only piecemeal approaches have been taken thus far. CEQA reform will remain a priority for CBPA given its negative impacts on the commercial real estate industry.
