GENERAL ASSEMBLY HIGHLIGHTS

After four years, Disciples across the United States and Canada gathered in Louisville, Kentucky, for General Assembly 2023. Saturday, July 29, the Assembly opened up with a Regional roll call with each of the 31 regions of the CCDOC processing into opening worship. Our Executive Regional Minister and others represented the Great River Region. Gov. Andy Beshear, Governor of Kentucky and member of Beargrass Christian Church, brought greetings.

Later that evening, everyone came together for worship, where Chaplain Major Owen Chandler preached and encouraged us to “Love first. Love always. We’ll figure the rest out as we go.”

A portion of General Assembly consisted of business where voting delegates convened and voted on resolutions. An important resolution adopted was GA-2345, Re-election of the General Minister and President. Therefore, Rev. Teresa “Terri” Hord Owens will serve a second term as the General Minister and President making her the first African American female to do so. The remainder of the General Assembly consisted of worship, workshops, fellowship, and making connections. The 2025 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, July 12-15, 2025.
