St. John's will celebrate The Venerable Joanne Leslie, former archdeacon, who served at the Cathedral for nine years between 2008 and 2017. The Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor will celebrate and preach. An outdoor reception will follow.

Vestry members are partners with clergy, encouraging the growth of community and the establishment of common ground in the spiritual life of the congregation. Parishioners are always welcome to speak with these individuals on Sunday morning; they assist in making sure our questions, comments, or concerns are heard.

Gardening Ministry Meets

Saturday, September 7

9:00 am - 11:00 am


Grab your gloves and join us on the lawn. We have a Gardening Ministry that will meet every first Saturday of the month from 9am-11am. Our next gardening day is September 7. Help us care for the earth. We will weed, cut, prune, fertilize, plant, mulch, and water, as well as share stories and gardening tips in good humor and fellowship. If you enjoy getting your fingernails and knees dirty, join the St. John's Gardening Ministry. Contact the parish office to sign up. Feel free to bring your favorite gardening tools!

Girls' Friendly Society (GFS)


An international, non-profit organization affiliated with the Episcopal Church, for girls and women, regardless of race, religion, or nationality. GFS provides a support system aimed at developing the whole person through programs of worship, outreach, study, and recreation. GFS creates a diverse, intergenerational community. L.A. city committee on reparations; This Sunday deadline for comments...



The L.A. city Reparations Advisory Committee – a blue-ribbon task force of local leaders in activism, academia, law and racial justice – will release findings of a year-long study titled “The Impact of the Black Experience in Los Angeles” on at Cal-State University, Northridge (CSUN).


This event will also serve as the kickoff for a two-week campaign to get the public's feedback on possible reparations through the City of Los Angeles. The campaign will run from Sunday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 8 and will include presentations, radio ads, an online survey, and idea/suggestion boxes placed throughout the city, including at these three Episcopal congregations:



The study, set to feature community testimony and perspectives on reparations, will be the basis of the commission’s final recommendations to city leaders.


Established by the city in 2021, the Reparations Advisory Commission works with CSUN as its academic partner and with Mockingbird Analytics as fund development partner.

Second Annual Shepherd's Cup

Calling all golfers! The second annual Shepherd’s Cup Golf Classic and Dinner will be held at the Industry Hills Golf Club and Pacific Palms Resort in the City of Industry. This year’s event will benefit campus ministries in the Diocese of Los Angeles, including Canterbury USC!
