A Facebook post from Bishop John H. Taylor....
#feedinghungryhearts This weekend, in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, Jim Wallis is bringing the Word.
Founder of Sojourners magazine and our era's leading progressive evangelical Christian, Wallis sounds the call for a new Reformation in his new book, "The False White Christian Gospel," when he writes, "We are literally in a battle now between false religion and true faith and between racial fascism and multicultural democracy." The news is getting around. Jim told me this morning that he's just received word that his new book, his 15th, will enter The New York Times nonfiction bestseller list at #4 when it debuts on April 21.
Twice this weekend, members of the diocese and all its neighbors will have the opportunity to hear from Jim and pose their own questions: On Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral in Los Angeles and Saturday at 2 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church Pasadena. Both events are free of charge.
I'll be Jim's conversation partner Friday evening at the cathedral, offering him the opportunity to talk about his roots in a conservative evangelical church in suburban Detroit (in my mother's hometown of Redford Township) and his bracing challenge to the church in our times.
Please join us, in Los Angeles or Pasadena. For Christ and our nation, the stakes can't possibly be higher.

Celebrating the Life of Hazel Baptist
TOMORROW, April 13 at 2:00pm
Join the friends and family of Ms. Hazel Alexandria Baptist as the congregation remembers and celebrates. Colors for the day will be red, pink and/or white; hats are encouraged. High Tea will be held following the service. Please bring your favorite tea cup and saucer.
I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord.
Whoever has faith in me shall have life,
even though he die.
And everyone who has life,
and has committed himself to me in faith,
shall not die for ever.
Happy from now on
are those who die in the Lord!
So it is, says the Spirit,
for they rest from their labors.

JOBY TALBOT’S PATH OF MIRACLES:
Members of the Choir of Saint James & guests, Maura Tuffy, conductor
This Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 4:15pm
A pilgrimage in composition, Path of Miracles is a musical journey, as the four movements represent the four main stops (Roncesvalles, Burgos, León and Santiago) along the Camino de Santiago, one of Christendom’s most famous pilgrimage routes. Using selections from the medieval texts Codex Calixtinus and Miragres de Santiago and from Roman Catholic liturgies, Path of Miracles incorporates musical styles ranging from the Taiwanese Bunun people and the pilgrims’ hymn Dum Pater Familias to contemporary minimalism and other modern idioms. Sung in Greek, Latin, Spanish, Basque, French, English and German, the writer Robert Dickinson incorporates passages from Christian medieval and liturgical texts into his powerful libretto.
