Please join us in congratulating Dr. Xiong Jiang on his promotion to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Neuroscience at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Jiang's current R01 project is entitled "An advanced functional MRI study of frontostriatal injury in adults with HIV."
Dr. Jiang's other research involves identifying potential MRI biomarkers of HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND), and investigating the potentials of using transcranial current stimulation to treat HAND. He also investigates the Alzheimer's disease phenotype in older HIV+ adults.

REGISTER: DC CFAR SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM 2023 | |
The DC CFAR is proud to announce the Return of the DC CFAR Scientific Symposium - 2023! The Symposium will be held on Tuesday, October 10 from 9:00 am-3:30 pm in the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health Convening Center. This is the first large in-person event that the DC CFAR has hosted since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, and we hope that it will serve as a meaningful and memorable gathering of HIV investigators and community members in DC. This event will be held in-person with a virtual option on Zoom. Due to limited capacity, preference for in-person attendance will be given to DC CFAR Investigators, Community Partnership Council members, and NIH guests. New Commentary from MACC Latinx Working Group on Pandemic-Era Policies That Can Help End the HIV Epidemic for Latinas/os/xs | |
Dr. Thespina (Nina) Yamanis (AU), Social and Behavioral Sciences Associate Core Director, Dr. Maria Cecilia Zea (GW), Social and Behavioral Sciences Core Co-Director, Cristian Mendoza Gomez (GW), the Administrative Core's Center Associate and CDEIPI Scholar Alum, and colleagues from the Mid-Atlantic CFAR Consortium (MACC) Latinx Working Group published a commentary in AIDS Patient Care and STD's last month entitled, "Pandemic-Era Policies that can Help End the HIV/AIDS Epidemic for Latinas/os/xs."
The commentary identifies ways to leverage the pandemic-era momentum to help end the HIV epidemic (EHE) for Latina/o/x individuals, and draws on original data with stakeholders who work in HIV prevention and treatment for Latinas/os/xs in the Mid-Atlantic region.

DC CFAR Investigators Dr. Derek Dangerfield (GW) and Dr. DeMarc Hickson (UHU) awarded new UG3 Grant |  | |
Please join us in congratulating Drs. Derek Dangerfield (GWU) and DeMarc Hickson (UHU) on their recent UG3 award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) entitled "Identifying socioecological profiles that impact changes in care outcomes among Black sexual minority men living with HIV."
Dr. Dangerfield is an Associate Professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at GW, and Dr. Hickson is the Executive Director of Us Helping US and a member of the DC CFAR Executive Committee.
The goals of the study are to identify effective recruitment strategies and test the feasibility and acceptability of enrolling 1,000 Mid-Atlantic Black SMM LWH in a large virtual cohort; validate new and commonly accepted scales among BSMM LWH to to inform survey design; and to quantify the cross sectional and longitudinal relationships between multilevel factors and HIV care outcomes among 2,500 BSMM LWH.

The DC CFAR is proud to announce the release of "Advancing Equity and Fostering Change: A Guide for Academic-Community Partnerships in the DC Center for AIDS Research," now available in Spanish!
Developed through a collaborative effort of the DC CFAR Community Partnership Council and Social and Behavioral Sciences Core, the guide builds on the scientific literature, community expertise and practical experience with the goal of advancing equitable academic-community partnerships in the DC CFAR.
The guide offers historical context, concise and focused guidance, “real world” examples, and practical tools. It is organized around key components for an equitable academic-community partnership in the DC CFAR. In addition to the guide, the authors have assembled an appendix of practical guidance and helpful resources, which are all available here. The guide is a living document, and one that the authors aim to strengthen and improve over time. Colleagues are welcome to share any comments, suggestions, or feedback on how the guide can be strengthened here.
