DC CFAR Developmental Core "My Path to Independence in HIV Research" Featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci, Thurs, March 21, from 4:00-5:00PM ET |
Please join us for the DC CFAR Developmental Core Lecture Series: My Path to Independence in HIV Research. Each hour-long session in this series will showcase prominent researchers from across the country and autobiographical accounts of their careers in HIV research, specifically their pathways to career and research independence.
Our next lecture will feature Dr. Anthony Fauci, Distinguished University Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University School of Medicine and former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Fauci will discuss his perspectives on pursuing a research career in HIV-related science. We plan to follow his 30-minute presentation with a 30-minute Q&A session. We kindly ask that participants submit questions for Dr. Fauci in advance in the registration form linked below. Questions can be submitted in the chat box during the session as well.

“Genetic cures for HIV: the CRISPR/Cas9 system” on Thursday, February 29, from 12:00-1:00PM ET. The goal of this seminar is to:
- Build a conversation between researchers and community members on their perspectives of HIV cure research.
- Showcase underrepresented people in the field and share their stories and motivations behind their research.
- Foster collaboration, discussion, and public awareness on HIV cure research.
The seminar will include a presentation by DC CFAR investigator, Dr. Lee Campbell (left) followed by a Q&A and discussion with DC CFAR Community Partnership Council (CPC) member, Mr. Kenya Hutton (middle), and CFAR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Pathway Initiative (CDEIPI) Scholar, Ms. Morgan Scott (right).

DC CFAR Women and HIV SIG and SGM SIG Virtual Seminar in recognition of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Fri, March 8, 11-12PM ET |
Please join the Women and HIV Scientific Interest Group (SIG) and Sexual and Gender Minorities (SGM) SIG for a virtual on Friday, March 8, from 11:00-12:00 pm ET. In recognition of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on March 10, the seminar will focus on HIV prevention for transgender women.
The event will feature presentations from DC CFAR member, Dr. Ana María del Río-González (left) and Women and HIV SIG Academic Co-Lead, Dr. Mimi Ghosh (right). DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Rachel Scott's Study Added to CDC Compendium |
DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Rachel Scott's (Georgetown) study entitled "HIV PrEP Services for Urban Women" was added to the CDC's Compendium of Evidence-Based Interventions and Best Practices for HIV Prevention, under PrEP Services, linked here.
The study that these recommendations draw from are from Dr. Scott's study entitled, "Implementation of an Educational Intervention to Improve HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Services for Women in an Urban Sexual Health Clinic," which can be read online in the Journal of AIDS Patient Care and STDs.

DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Sarah Calabrese, Publishes Two New Articles |
DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Sarah Calabrese (GWU) has recently published two new articles. The first article is entitled, "The Potential Role of Undetectable = Untransmittable (U = U) in Reducing HIV Stigma among Sexual Minority Men in the US," and the second article is entitled "The Implications of PrEP Use, Condom Use, and Partner Viral Load Status for Openness to Serodifferent Partnering Among US Sexual Minority Men," both published in the Journal of AIDS and Behavior. These were published in collaboration with other GW investigators, national and international university partners, and CBOs. Please use the above links to read more.

DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Lee Campbell Publishes New Article |
DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Lee Campbell (Georgetown) recently publsihed a new paper entitled, "Gesicles packaging dCas9-VPR ribonucleoprotein complexes can combine with vorinostat and promote HIV proviral transcription," in the Journal of Molecular Therapy Methods & Clinical Development, with colleagues at the Laboratory of Preclinical Neurobiology, Department of Neuroscience at Georgetown University. This paper found that a combination of dCas9-VPR gesicles with other latency-reversing agents may provide a complementary method to activate latent HIV in future studies utilizing patient-derived cells or small animal models. Modelers and Storytellers: Transdisciplinary Training to Advance Community Health Intervention Research, Priority Deadline due March 11th
The Modelers and Storytellers Transdisciplinary Training is a two-week virtual summer research education program that will prepare predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees as well as early-career researchers to apply systems and/or data science methods to community-engaged health disparities research. The goal is to accelerate the translation of research into practice to address real-world, complex health issues especially as they relate to health disparities. NEW - Northwestern’s NIBIB-funded Center for Innovation in Point of Care Technologies for HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases (C-THAN); Expression of Interest Due March 31st, 2024
C-THAN is specifically seeking proposals focused on increasing patient access to HIV viral load monitoring which may include the development of novel viral load diagnostics, technology that enables sample collection and/or plasma separation, field testing of assays in development, or implementation studies of current or near commercial tests. CDRF: 2024 CFAR HIV/AIDS Training Fellowship Awards, Seeking Indian National Applicant - Intent to Apply due by March 31st, 2024
CRDF Global is now accepting proposals from Centers for AIDS Research (CFARs) to support early-stage investigators from India working in the field of HIV/AIDS research for the 2024 CFAR HIV/AIDS Training Fellowship Awards. This two-year fellowship program aims to promote the training and inclusion of early-stage Indian scientists in HIV-related collaborative research within the CFAR program. Applications should come from CFARs and identify at least one Indian fellowship candidate. The initial intent to apply deadline is March 31, 2024; applications are due by July 31, 2024. Emory Training Program in Translational Research to End the HIV Epidemic is now accepting applications to fill postdoctoral slots for January and July 2024.
