ORCHARD LAKE COMMUNITY CHURCH, PRESBYTERIAN
CELEBRATES 150 YEARS
On July 21, the congregation of Orchard Lake Community Church, Presbyterian is
celebrating the 150th anniversary of the dedication of its chapel, once known as the
Church in the Wildwood.
The celebration will commence with a special church service at 10 am, including bagpipes and a unique bell tolling for each of the 150 years of this historic Christian institution. The service will be followed by an ice cream social including a light lunch.
Historical exhibits will be displayed inside the original building. The day will conclude with a presentation by Katherine Cangany, PhD, a direct descendent of church founders, Colin and Caroline Campbell. Her topic will be on the connection of nearby Apple Island to the founding of the church. The Campbells summered on Apple Island and sought to share their faith with the increasing number of people visiting the lakes area each season.
Thanks to prayers and hard work (including selling grapes to help pay for construction), the cornerstone of Orchard Lake Community Church was laid in 1871 with the original chapel dedicated three years later on July 18, 1874.
