Steeple Notes Weekly Newsletter

Worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.

On Sunday, September 15, worship in the Birmingham First sanctuary will focus on John 3: 16-17 where we are told, “16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” The sermon is entitled, “Why God Bothers,” and will examine the mission of God in a fallen world. Understanding and embracing God’s salvific mission in the world is indispensable to the participation of Christians in God’s mission. Come and let us ponder together the mission of God and our participation in it. The worship service will be lively, with great sacred music, profound congregational involvement, and the fellowship of sisters and brothers in the household of faith. I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday at 9:30 am and 11:00 am in-person or online.

Rev. Dr. Charles S. G. Boayue, Jr.

Supporting educators through donations to their Amazon Wish Lists is a meaningful way to make a direct impact on classrooms and provide support from our congregation! These wish lists often include essential supplies and resources that can enhance learning experiences and foster a positive environment for students. By contributing to these lists, you provide teachers with the tools they need to support their students effectively, often filling gaps that might otherwise go unaddressed. Additionally, it shows God's love when it comes from our church! If you are a church member and you'd like your list included, please reach out to Pastor Sarah at salexander@fumcbirmingham.org.

The Four Loves: Romance

Song of Songs 6:1-6

From the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” to the J. Geils Band’s “Love Stinks” to the many eras of Taylor Swift, everyone has something to say about love. And, more often than not, they’re talking about eros or romantic love. This Sunday at Berkley First, we explore what the Bible has to say about romance, how it differs from what we think the Bible might say, and what that means for our lives today. All are encouraged to bring a dish to pass as we join in our monthly Potluck Brunch downstairs after the 10:00 a.m. worship service. More information is available at BerkleyFirst.org.

Check out the Berkley First Website for more information or to worship online.
