New Design of Utility Bills

At West Melbourne, City staff strives to provide our residents with the highest quality of customer service every day. One of the foundations of excellent service is to provide information and documentation that is easy for all to navigate and to understand. To achieve that, the diligent staff in our Finance Department, Utility Division, spent several weeks reviewing the design of the monthly utility bills.

The new utility bill design offers a single, user-friendly place for all your essential account details, featuring a modern and stylish design. The updated layout and wording enhance clarity and comprehension of the information provided. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our helpful staff at 321-837-7750.

Notable Incidents and Activities

Vehicular Accidents/Incident

A vehicle accident with injuries and roadblocks in the area of Minton Road and Henry Avenue in front of the Post Office. East and westbound lanes were closed for a period of time.

Police units responded to a traffic crash - vehicle vs. building - at Truist Bank, 175 Palm Bay Road. The vehicle hit the front of the building, and caused damage but did not penetrate the building. There were no injuries, and the building official was notified.

West Melbourne Police Department and the Brevard County Fire & Rescue responded to a motorcycle fire in the 300 block of Park Hill Boulevard. The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries.

Theft

A vehicle parked at a local park was unlawfully entered into by an unknown suspect. A purse and credit card were stolen and was used at a local store. Another vehicle also unlawfully entered at a different park and the same vehicle was observed leaving the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

A patrol officer located a subject who was in possession of a portable generator that he suspected was illegally taken from Walmart. Upon following up with the store, video was located of the suspect leaving the store with the item in a cart without paying for it. He was transported to Brevard County Jail.

Capital Projects - Making a Big Difference in Drainage

The Melbourne Estates Drainage Improvement Project continues to progress. A significant part of this project are the 33,000 pound headwalls that were delivered and installed this week. The City will replace the old culvert pipe and crossing at Bossieux Boulevard and Henry Avenue.

Thank you very much for your continued patience.

Public Works

The City’s Public Works Department continues to provide a broad range of services that keeps West Melbourne running smoothly and efficiently.

Municipal Maintenance

The Streets and Drainage Department inspected the Westbrooke Park Basketball Court that is being removed in order for a new concrete surface to be installed. The City’s contractor has removed the old concrete surface and is preparing to install the new concrete surface.

Additionally, the Menzi excavator started its annual pass through the City’s canal system this week along Sutton Avenue. This versatile piece of construction equipment has significantly helped our crew, particularly on challenging terrains.

Our Parks Maintenance crew assisted Team Pain on the Field of Dreams Skate Park repairs and maintenance. The repairs will be completed this week by Team Pain, and next week the Parks Maintenance crew will seal the concrete on the skate park. Patience pays - all skaters and skateboarders will be back to "grabbing some air" really soon!

Water and Sewer

The Public Works Water Department completed 185 work orders, serviced 15 fire hydrants, painted 26 fire hydrants, and exercised 15 in line gate valves. The crew also tapped and ran a new two-inch poly water line on Donna Lane in preparation for a Brevard County storm water project.

The Water Department also completed a trench box training class, finished up sod restoration on Sheridan Road, and replaced the river rocks around a fire hydrant in the islands at the Minton Center shopping plaza.

This week, the Sewer team completed 210 work orders, 14 sewer inspections, and 77 sewer/reuse locates this week. Maintenance crews were on hand to assist Danus Utilities to complete the repairs and rehabilitations to the four manholes located on Henry Avenue. The crew inspected the installation of the new sewer pipes being installed at the new Sunrise Estates construction site.
