Joseph and his Brothers

Children's Summer Worship

For this week, our Summer Worship Series Children's Worship Lesson is all about....A Deeper Dive into the Joseph Story!

A summary of this Lesson, that comes out of the Book of Genesis (37-50) is:

His story is told in the book of Genesis.  Joseph, most beloved of Jacob's sons, is hated by his envious brothers. Angry and jealous of Jacob's gift to Joseph, a resplendent “coat of many colors,” the brothers seize him and sell him to a party of Ishmaelites who carry him to Egypt.

We will have another Full Hour of Children's Worship between 9:30 and 10:30 am, and we will focus on our Lesson, enjoy some Faith and Fellowship, have some snack, crafting and games!

Green Tip for July!

Did you know that paper products contribute the most waste to landfills? Think snail mail, bills, office and school paper. The average US worker uses 10,000 sheets of paper each year1! Some of this cannot be avoided but where possible, print on both sides of paper, conduct business electronically, and sign up for e-billing. And another thing: plant a tree! The average tree absorbs up to 1 ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime. While enormous southern Oaks and towering Redwoods contribute greatly to that stat (so I assume), our northern Maples are just as valuable, absorbing our waste while making maple syrup. That’s a win for the environment and our breakfast!

Soul Keeping

Try Summer Devotions!

How are you doing with that "to-do" list? Is your email box full? How many social media apps are you looking at? Is your mind whirling even when you try to relax?

The pace of life we keep can often be exhausting and can lead to a constant, hurried state. John Ortberg, in his book, Soul Keeping, talks about the fact that when we are hurried all the time we cannot be fully present to others and we become unavailable to God.

Summer is a great time to slow the "hurry" of life and reconnect with God. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • If you have been neglecting your devotional life, try carving out even 5 minutes to just breathe and be with God.
  • Talk a walk and get in touch with nature again.
  • Make a list of ways you are blessed and give thanks to God.
  • Have a "fast" from social media or email for a day (or even a couple of hours) and see how much time you gain back to renew.
  • Call up that friend or relative you have been meaning to talk to and just listen to their story.
  • Do a craft, sport, or hobby; something you can "lose yourself" in, letting go of the "to-do" list for a while.
