SUMMER RECTOR'S FORUM

9am Sundays

May 19-June 9 and July 7-Aug. 11

At our last Diocesan Convention, Bishop Scharf invited all the churches in the diocese to a journey of spiritual renewal and growth through a group called Forward Movement.

Using the book “Signs of Life: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Your Church,” we will look at the challenges facing congregations, as well as a celebration of practices that contribute to spiritual vitality in congregations --- and in your personal life!

Join Father Jim as we enter the season of Pentecost and examine the next steps in our life at Church of Ascension! Where is the Holy Spirit leading?

Walking the Camino de Santiago: A Personal Journey

with Alex Everist

9am Sundays June 16, 23, 30

in the Parish Hall

If you watched “The Way” during our Dinner and a Movie Night, here’s another chance to experience the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage --- through the eyes of Alex Everist, an Ascension parishioner who has walked it.

The Way of St. James (in English) is a network of pathways from four cities in northern France and one in Portugal leading to the shrine of the apostle James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

According to tradition, the remains of St. James the Greater are interred in the cathedral.

Established after the discovery of the relics of St. James at the beginning of the 9th century, the Camino de Santiago became a major pilgrimage route of medieval Christianity. By the end of the 15th century, Pope Alexander VI had officially declared it to be one the three great pilgrimages of Christendom, along with Jerusalem and the Via Francigena to Rome. Today, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims walk it every year.

Why Green?

Green is the liturgical color for the season of Pentecost, lasting until

the first Sunday of Advent, which falls on Dec. 1 this year.

Stewardship Note:

Why do we give?

In thanksgiving for God's generous abundance given to us in the sacrament of His Body and the provision of our needs!

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

"Each of us should give what we have decided in our heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

---Second Corinthians 9:6-8
