Sow and Grow

Are you interested in gardening?

We could use your help!

Sow and Grow is a project focused towards the Episcopal Church’s initiative focused on Creation Care. The project will help the children of ECS Head Start learn about the earth, plants, and care for God’s creation. The project is in partnership with St. John’s / ECS / Bishop’s School (Episcopal High School).

On April 19th, volunteers from St. John’s will prepare the planting materials and the raised garden beds in the two courtyards of St. John’s School.

On April 22nd, students from Bishop’s School will help the ECS Head Start children plant a variety of vegetable and flower seeds in individual cups.

On May 28th, students from Bishop’s School will help the children plant the seedlings in the raised gardens beds, water, and the children will watch their plants grow.

We, members of St. John’s, will take care of watering the plants while the children are on summer break.

In the Fall, the children harvest the vegetables which they take home to their families to eat.

We would welcome your donations of gardening tools, especially a spade, a rake or a gardening trolley/cart.

If you would like to help us with this wonderful Sow and Grow Project -

Please contact Maria at the church office: 619-422-4141 or

Camp Stevens: The Sacred in the Story

By: Dr. Kathy Wilder, Camp Stevens Director

It took me a moment to realize standing next to me was a firefighter. She was taller than me, broad, and loaded with a substantial equipment belt. She was covered head to toe in soot. I didn’t expect to see tears on her face. I reached over and placed a hand on her shoulder- I asked if she was okay. Read More
