We had such a fun week! Members of the Yorkville High School spring musical cast performed for our entire school on Tuesday. We loved seeing former BBES students singing and dancing! The cast is so talented and some of our students even won T-shirts! The YHS show is this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and tickets are available HERE. To see a preview of the musical CLICK HERE.

We also had roller skating in PE class this week! It is so fun watching the students progress with their skills throughout the week. Thank you Mrs. Kamin, Mr. Marek, and Mrs. Costa for making this magic happen for our students.

Finally, we hosted our last Fox Clubs this week. The time sure went fast! Thank you to all our club sponsors for helping our students participate in after-school activities each week.

We have many messages in the newsletter this week. Please make sure to read the entire newsletter for all the details!

Co-ed Intramural Soccer starts next week. Practice will be held from 3:45-4:45 three days per week as noted on the schedule that was shared with registered students. There will be a tournament on Saturday, May 13th to celebrate the end of the season held at one of our sister schools. Once coaches get word on our game time(s), they will pass along that information.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please reach out to kbachewicz@y115.org or cfinke@y115.org for more information.

BBES Book Fair

The Spring Book Fair is next week and we are excited to announce it will be Tax-Free! Not only will this make calculating the cost of books much easier for students to know how much money they will need, but it is also our way of saying thank you for instilling the love of reading in your child. Another exciting aspect of the fair will be "Book Bin Raffles". Students will be able to purchase tickets, 5 for $1, for a chance to win a stockpile of books (and a few fun prizes included as well). Please look at the schedule to see what days your child will be browsing and which days they will be buying. The fair will be open to all families from 5:30-8:00 pm during our musical performances Tuesday and Thursday nights and the final day for all students to buy will be Friday, April 28th.

Musical Instrument Selection

Wow! 4th Grade has had an terrific few weeks of music opportunities, beginning with our April 6th Music Kick-Off Assembly, featuring the YHS Band, Orchestra, and Choir. This week, all 4th grade students were able to learn about their four music class options for 5th Grade, which are Band, Orchestra, Choir, Music Appreciation, and Dual Enrollment.

To help them with this important decision, students took part in class discussions, question and answer sessions, teacher meet-and-greets, and instrument demonstrations/trials. The Music Staff is excited to help each and every 4th grader choose the best music class for them next fall.   Class selection form was due today. Please make sure to turn the form in if you have not done so. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's music teacher.

Placement for 23-24

girl_with_book_gray.jpg

Our staff is beginning the class placement process for the 2023-2024 school year. We work very hard to ensure that every student is placed in a classroom that is best suited for their induvial needs and learning style. When determining classroom placement, our staff considers academic achievement, social and emotional needs, and peer relationships. We are challenged with creating balanced and diverse learning environments that maximize the potential of every student. While I understand that some parents may have a preference for a particular teacher, I cannot accommodate individual teacher requests. If you want to share information about your child's learning style or the type of learning environment your child thrives in best, please email me no later than May 12, 2023. We do not guarantee parent requests but do take this information into consideration.

Food Service Information

During the last two years the federal government provided free school lunches to all families that wanted to participate or had the need for the service. This year, 2022/2023, Yorkville CUSD 115 will return to participating in the USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The NSLP is a federally-assisted meal program that provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

The NSLP uses specific Income Eligibility Guidelines to determine eligibility for free and reduced price meals or free milk for students. Parents/Guardians interested in completing an online application to receive meal benefits for their children, may do so starting August 1st.
