Dear members and friends of St. Raphael’s,
Last weekend my friends and I worshiped at Eglise St. Sulpice in Paris. (The Sulpicians were very active in the early days of New France, now Quebec, so we Canadians felt a link.) Both priest and people were engaged and engaging, celebrating the Blessed Trinity with suitable awe and joy.
This week I have been at the Shrine of our Lady of Lourdes, the heart of my journey and one of the great shrines of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I have been praying here for the continued restoration and growth of St. Raphael’s and for God’s blessing for all of you.
This Sunday, the Second after Pentecost, brings us into the “green season”, what our Roman Catholic friends call “Ordinary Time”. The first part of the liturgical year, from Advent through Pentecost, draws us into the mysteries of Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection, culminating on Pentecost with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church.
The rest of the year engages us with Jesus’ teaching and his calling to us to be his people. It gives us time to digest what this means and how to respond.
The Rev. Bruce White as our celebrant and preacher this week and next. Thank you for making him welcome.
In case of pastoral emergency, Fr. Bill Gilmore is on call at 239 571-1023.
God bless you all.
