The Israel Working Group Presents

"Voices Within: Sharing Thoughts and Feelings Heard and Held"

June 30th at 2 PM in person at Shir Shalom and

July 2nd at 7 PM on Zoom

Since October 7th, many of us have been deeply engrossed in the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza, confronting some of the most profound complexities and moral challenges of our time. The Israel Working is organizing a safe space for people to reflect together in order to repair our own souls, in a platform that encourages empathy and understanding.

This facilitated gathering Voices Within: Sharing Thoughts and Feelings Heard and Held, " will take place on June 30 from 2-4 PM at Shir Shalom. The gathering will be facilitated by a Eileen Babbitt, PhD, Professor of Practice, International Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, with experience facilitating discussions between Israeli Arabs and Israeli Jews and the facilitator for the zoom event is our very own Pamela Steiner, PhD, Senior Fellow, FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard School of Public Health.

Together, as a community, we will seek understanding and fruitful mutual learning.  We also want to extend an enthusiastic invitation to our younger community members to join us and share their concerns. We hope our older members will inspire their younger family members to participate as well.

Susannah Heschel

Dartmouth College Professor

and Renowned Scholar

“Antisemitism as a cultural code: what’s new in the scholarship?”

Antisemitism is not new, but the scholarship analyzing its varied manifestations is young and underdeveloped. Professor Heschel will discuss debates among scholars about the nature and purpose of antisemitism and suggest new approaches, drawing from theories of emotions, gender, sexuality, and temporality to better understand antisemitic motivations and impact.

Leave A Legacy

Have you thought about how you might help ensure Shir Shalom well into its future? There are ways to extend your generosity beyond your valuable annual gifts and to create a legacy of your support that benefits our wonderful synagogue after you are gone. To help you learn about and consider such possibilities, a new page has been added to our website describing planned giving opportunities that can be deeply impactful. Go to select the Give link and scroll down to the Legacy Gift link. I and members of the Fund Raising Committee are happy to talk with you about finding ways that best suit your desires and aspirations for helping Shir Shalom. If you have already included Shir Shalom in your estate, we would like to record that in our records, so please let me know.
