Director's Report

We are off and running! Classes are making music and the marching band is on the move. We hope your first few days have gone smoothly and if they haven't, we hope that changes for you soon.

I celebrated my 50th birthday this week at marching band practice and was touched by all of the notes, cards, well wishes and goodies. You sure know how to make a guy feel special.

It's a great day to be a Don!

Mr. Grantham & Mr. Fell

Travel jacket Available to Order

If any marching band student would like to purchase a travel jacket at an approximate cost of

$65, please contact Sharon Beckley at uniform@amadormusic.org by August 22, as fittings will be on August 24. Travel jackets are worn over your marching band uniform before and after football games or competitions. Pictures of the travel jackets are attached.

Marching Band Uniform Tank Tops

Many people have inquired as to what type of tank top to purchase for the marching band uniform. Please see the attached pictures. The biggest factors the directors would like to see in tank tops are no sleeves and decently fitted. The tops do not need to be tight, but they should not be oversized.

If you have additional questions, please contact Sharon Beckley uniform@amadormusic.org.

LAST CALL!! If you haven't turned in your EMI and/or Field trip forms, please bring them to practice on Saturday and turn them in at the band office.

Road Warriors need you!

Do you know how the big musical instruments that your kids use get to competitions? Do you know how the drum major stands get onto the field for competitions? It is parent volunteers, like you, that make all that magic happen! Come join the Road Warriors and you can also get up close to watch your kids during competitions. Email roadwarriors@amadormusic.org to join the email list. No prior experiences required.

As required by PUSD, all volunteers have to get the clearance. See section Volunteer on the website https://www.amadormusic.org/support/volunteer.  Road Warriors are required to have Level 1 clearance. Please start the process as soon as possible and respond when you are cleared so that we can keep a record.

Special requests--

Road Warriors generally do not require any experience or special skills, just enthusiasm, participation and maybe a pair of work gloves!

However if you like to drive an u-haul box truck or have a pick-up truck that can pull our 26-ft trailer, not the big semi-trailer, please let us know. We have a special place for you! Excitement is guaranteed. Not having to hire professional drivers or renting one less U-Haul truck can save quite a bit of money during competition events.

AV Marching Band & Guard Photos - Preorder link

Marching Band and Guard photos will be on Friday, August 30! It will be right after school, starting with group photos, then section photos, and individual photos for those who opt to take them. Please preorder photos before photo day: https://www.agpsports.com/amador-valley-band-program-2024. Schedule and details of the day will be shared by Band Directors closer to the date of the event.

Self-Nomination for At Large Board Members, due Sept 16, 2024

The AFM bylaws allow up to four Members at Large. These members serve on the AFM Board, attend monthly board meetings, and vote on action items. We would like to have diverse representation on the board, such as parents from each music group (strings, band, jazz, choir, guard, etc.) and/or from each grade level.

*We need non-Senior parents to serve as an At Large Board member. Our current AFM Board has many senior parents which means next year, we will need new parents to serve on the board.

We will be accepting nominations until noon September 16, 2024. If you're interested, please fill out this Self Nomination Form for At Large Board Member

If you have any questions, please contact Soojin Hwang, president@amadormusic.org

Non-Official Chat Groups for Marching Band Parents

Other than the weekly Newsletter, AFM website, AFM Facebook group, text reminder, INSTAGRAM @amadorvalleybands @avcolorguard as our official communication channels, some of our volunteer parents also created non-official social media chat groups for marching band parents to ask questions and share info.
