Because Lutherans love to archive: even digital slideshows tell a story. Tom took snapshots of his "Let's Get Organ-ized" students to add to his scrapbook of 41 years of summer music ministry. No musical this year, but eager musicians shared what they learned at the organ with family last Sunday. Click the photo above to see who participated in the Summer 2020 program. We are in this together. WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER. We may be apart, but we are not alone.

There are so many ways to get and share information these days. Pastor Marcus mailed a brief letter to our non-tech folks who don't get this email or other internet sources. We thought you might want to read it, too! Some highlights that could be new to you:
- Church Projects
- Day School Growth
- Room Relocations

Despite Covid-19, TIS THE SEASON OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL SALES! This year the Thrivent Action Team has broadened the scope to also include not only supplies for children abroad, but also some supplies for Emanuel’s Day School and Seguin ISD students. As you shop – however that may be – please include some of these items to share with students whose families, experiencing economic difficulties, may not have everything they need.
70-page spiral notebooks (greatest need) pink erasers ball point pens crayons
Blunt children’s scissors pencil sharpeners unsharpened pencils
rulers with both metric and US measurement boxes of facial tissue
How will supplies be collected? Hopefully, you can put your purchases in a safe and memorable spot so that, when Emanuel’s office hours and in-sanctuary worship are normalized, you can bring the supplies along with you to church. School supply receptacles are now placed at the Mountain Street door and in the narthex.
If you want to participate, but don’t want to shop, a monetary donation can be well-spent during these back-to-school sales. For instance, ten dollars buys 40 spiral notebooks or 480 pencils. A check, with a school supply notation, can be donated to Emanuel’s. You can also make a payment online through Emanuel's PayPal account. Please indicate "School Supplies" in your message.

"Installation service rostered leaders from three years ago! What a wonderful chapter of ministry this has been and continues to be! Many thanks to everyone, especially my incredible wife, for your continued support, prayers, and willingness to engage the oddities of life alongside me!"
On August 6, 2017 he wrote, "I cannot begin to thank all those who made today's worship services and installation possible. It was an exhausting undertaking I know, but what a celebration it was! To my family, loved ones, and friends who took time on a Sunday to be with us, even from far off, your presence and prayers this days were greatly felt and will be treasured. I also could not be more thankful for this group of church leaders to work with, learn from, and serve alongside. Thank you for being a part of today's service!"
Thanks be to God for your service, energy, and unwavering commitment to the mission, ministry, and people of Emanuel's Lutheran Church. It has been a fantastic three years. Here is to many more!

Another fun Milestone this week. PM reports that Emanuel's Facebook Page has reached 500 likes! As he put it, "We've crossed the Reformation threshold!" Thanks, friends!
This is oddly important for the weird metrics Facebook uses to promote our page. Please make sure to "Like" the Emanuel's page and not just "follow" it.
Check our FB page out here.

You are invited to share your milestones, too! If something of note has happened while we've been apart, please let us know. Did you celebrate an anniversary? Retire? Witness a tot's first step or a kid loosing a tooth? Send your pics our way at info@emanuels-seguin.org. We've been missing hugs and handshakes, but it's been so long we need to see FACES!

Emanuel's Congregational Care Ministry is coordinating a weekly letter writing campaign called CARE CARDS. It's been great to see your cards rolling in!
This week we will be again collecting encouraging notes for our EMANUEL'S DAY SCHOOL TEACHERS. We want their new year to start off with tons of love. Send your kind words to the church and we will forward them in a big bundle.

EMANUEL'S PRAYER TREE: "Leaf" a Prayer. Prayers are now sprinkled around Emanuel's Prayer Garden, protected by the sprawling branches of the ancient, and historic, Ranger Oak. Feel free to use the tags provided there for your prayers or bring your own. Tie the tags to the rail around the garden. Spend quiet time reading and praying for others if you wish. Not getting out so much? You can email us your prayer at info@emanuels-seguin.org and we will add your petition for you.

Tuesdays at the GARDEN OF EATIN' from 9-11. In August we are harvesting and weeding. The garden is open to the community at all times, but Wayne will be there on Tuesdays to answer questions and get you started. Thank you, Wayne, for the delicious salad I made this week from garden goodies! ~Sherry

August 6, 2020 UPDATE:
The question most asked now of our church leaders is, "When can we return to church?" The Emanuel's Church Council was in agreement at the August 4, 2020 Council Meeting that we will return to in-person worship on campus "when it is safe for us to be a community together."
This means that our return date is TBD. Emanuel's Council and Staff are closely monitoring Covid-19 statistics in Guadalupe County and the State of Texas daily. They are keeping up-to-date with mandates and recommendations from Gov. Abbott, Guadalupe County and Seguin public health advisories, and the Southwestern Texas Synod guidelines from the Office of the Bishop. Emanuel's member responses to the "Return to Church Survey" from June echo this need to have a monitored and thoughtful approach to a safe re-entry.
This also means that we are re-learning what it means to "be the church." Church leaders are reflecting on what God is asking of us in this time and place. Connectional ministries are taking new shape. Tech skills are being honed. Prayer is deeper and more contemplative. Old ways are being reimagined into new ways. We want to hear how the Spirit is speaking to you as well. Please share how you would like to participate in this process of discernment.
Keep in your prayers our leaders as they continue to be the church while navigating strange waters. It is with great care and compassion for all that we move forward.

Emanuel's Office Staff is working remotely. Staff may be in the office as needed or by appointment Mondays through Thursdays from 8-5. Don't forget to wear a mask on the church campus. Everyone is still accessible via email and phone.
If Emanuel's had a church sign, we'd be creative during this time apart. Sharing some favorites the next few weeks starting with this one.
