Because Lutherans love coffee cake. Building inspections are done and the ovens are on! Emanuel's Ladies Aid commenced their traditional coffee cake baking on Tuesday, filling the entire building with a tantalizing aroma. Don't worry if you missed out. They are baking again on the 17th. Flour, sugar, and a whole lotta love go into every cake. We are better together.

BLESSING OF THE QUILTS

Sunday, October 15

Sunday’s Blessing of Lutheran World Relief Quilts and Kits sends our gifts off with our prayer that they bring comfort, safety, opportunity, dignity to people in dire need. In the overview of the world’s wars and devastations, these are small items that become big for the recipients.

Because the quilts and Kits displayed in the sanctuary are a fraction of those that will be shipped, they do not accurately reflect the size of Emanuel’s project: 295 quilts, 200 school kits, 100 Personal Care Kits. Example: The 200 school kits required 800 spiral notebooks, 1000 pencils and 1000 ballpoint pens.

It is all made possible by donations. July’s appeal was answered with a lot of supplies for kits. Monetary donations through designated offerings during July and August purchased Personal Care items, including 100 towels and 100 nail clippers. Boxes of fabrics of all sorts and sizes appear in the quilt room. Grants from Thrivent Financial provided batting for quilts and some school supplies. Donations from Sunday School classes have provided discretionary funds, including sewing machine maintenance and sewing supplies. On God’s Work Our Hands Day, almost 50 people assembled kits and tacked quilts. Ladies Aid sends a check for shipping costs directly to LWR.org.

AND NOW, some assistance is needed to deliver approximately 80-90 packed boxes to our synod’s Ingathering Day, Wednesday, November 1. Early in the day we load a flatbed trailer to deliver to St. John Lutheran Church in Marion where two 18-wheeler trucks will be ready for loading from throughout

southcentral Texas. If your body is able and your spirit is willing, would you offer to help on that day? Text 830-305-2970 to volunteer for this amazing, heart-warming experience.

BEING THE CHURCH

WE SEE YOU!

Welcome to the Emanuel's Family Koa Eladhari! It was a joy to celebrate your baptism on Sunday. Koa is pictured here with Pastor Marcus, parents Allison and Alexander, and sponsors Angelynn Rodriguez and Ashley Johnson.

REFORMATION SUNDAY

October 29, 2023

Mark your calendars now for a festive worship service followed by our annual sausage supper on the lawn. Randall Springs is smoking delicious sausage links and Mike and the Middletones German Band returns to entertain during the meal. First responders are invited to lunch as a small token of appreciation for their service. A free will offering and bin for no-perishable food items for the Christian Cupboard will be available.

Please bring a side dish to complement the feast. Sign-up sheets are in the Narthex for sides to bring as well as volunteers for set up on Saturday and Sunday prior to supper, serving food and beverages, and clean up following. Can’t wait spend this special day with you!

COFFEE CAKE BAKING RESUMES!

Tuesdays, October 10 & 17

The Ladies Aid members will bake their famous Coffee Cakes Tuesdays, October 10 & 17. You may contact a Ladies Aid Member or call Sherry in the Church Office at 830-379-5046 for more information. Coffee Cakes can be picked up on the baking day after 2PM. The price is $7.50 each -- Apple, Peach, and Streusel. We all are excited about the new kitchen.

Pastoring a church is one of the most meticulous responsibilities in the body of Christ. Let’s show our appreciation for all Pastor Marcus does for the congregation and our community. Please bring gift cards, of any amount, to add to our festive tree located in the Narthex. Gift cards could include restaurants, grocery stores, coffee, general (like Visa or Amazon), etc. We are grateful for Pastor Marcus all the time. In October we are reminded to let him know!

PRAYERS FOR OUR SERVICE MEMBERS

Cindy Pique asks for prayers for her niece Dixie Edwards. Dixie serves in the US Navy as a CTT2, a Cryptologic Technicians Technical expert in airborne, shipborne and land-based radar signals. The ship she is on is being redirected to the conflict in Gaza.

Lord God of grace and power, stretch forth your almighty arm to strengthen and protect all those in the armed forces of our country. In battle, watch over them; when peace prevails, guard them from evil; and in good time, bring them safely home. Give them courage and loyalty, and grant that they may serve without reproach. Amen.

Friday, October 27
