Toward Our Shared Future

THIS SUNDAY

It is the Lord God who helps me;

therefore I shall not be confounded.

                                              Isaiah 50: 4-9

Oh, the confidence of Isaiah!  God is with me, I shall succeed.  It’s the kind of confidence that has given prosperity gospellers a toehold and new age manifesters a strategy: Have faith, and you will WIN, or be BLESSED, or SAVED from trial and trouble.

This Sunday, Susan reflects on a challenging matter of faith: yes, God is on your side, but no, you’ll not be spared. Have you read Rabbi Harold Kushner’s seminal book When Bad Things Happen to Good People?  Might be time to pick it up again, and pick up the theological thread that also weaves through the life and worship of Saint Andrew’s.

Kevin and the choir will offer a very cool song - Trouble, Don’t You Come My Way. It’s got the confidence of Isaiah and a really good beat. Memorable!  Following worship, we’ll have a potluck lunch.  Manifest a dish, and you’re in! (just kidding ... cook something, chop something, arrange it pleasingly on a plate.  God is with you 😊)

Hope to see you at Saint Andrew's this Sunday.

Kelsey Arsenault September 20

Kelsey is an indie folk artist and certified music therapist from Newfoundland who was recently nominated by Music NL for "FOLK/ROOTS ARTIST OF THE YEAR". Her debut album ‘Gallery Walls’ is captivating. Recently said by Newfoundland’s Kellie Loder:

“(Kelsey’s album) reminds me of the joy of songwriting and how powerful a voice and a guitar can be. It transported me and had me wishing I was at a cabin secluded in the woods while watching the ocean out the snow-filled windows of Newfoundland. Kelsey’s voice is what does it for me.”

There are lots of opportunities to get involved at Saint Andrew's!

Our Welcome and Coffee Teams and Sunday Suppers need volunteers; the choir is open to new members; this Saturday you're invited to celebrate Ethiopian New Year at an event organized by the Berhan Group that calls Saint Andrew's home; there are fitness classes throughout the week (email the church office for details); and the Social Justice Committee has an exciting lineup of events we'll share about next week!
