We'll be in the Hare Memorial Garden and out on the church yard, weather permitting. We'd love to see you there, with anybody you'd care to bring.
- Potluck Picnic
- Hot dogs and hamburgers provided – bring sides
-
This Sunday, May 26, after the 10:30 service

On Monday we begin our week of hosting Family Promise of Lawrence with St. Margaret's, giving comfort and assistance to families that need a hand. You can help by buying portable snacks, making frozen meals or hosting a family for a few hours. The donation of grocery gift cards helps families in FPL's Shelter in Place program.
Your help is still welcome and appreciated. If you can volunteer, call or text Kris Manning at 785-550-7382.

Day on the Green Is Coming Up
Get your lawn chairs and your cool drinks and bring family and friends for an evening of lively music featuring Eric Ryan and Tony Silvestri.
| And there's more to come from the Boys of the Prairie. They'll provide the music for a contra dance – a bit like a square dance but not nearly so square – at 7 on the evening of Saturday, June 8. Ace caller Lisa Harris-Frydman will keep everybody moving in time to the Boys' tunes. Even if you don't dance [ed. note: I don't], the music is worth attending for. Come to New York Elementary, 936 New York St., and enjoy. |
Mother Jenn: Discerning What
the Holy Spirit Is Telling Us
The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. – John 3:8
The Holy Spirit can be the most mysterious and intangible of the three persons of the Trinity. She[1] blows where she chooses, and we can find ourselves in unexpected places for inexplicable reasons, as a result.
Our role in the work of the Holy Spirit is to first discern that it is indeed the Holy Spirit working in our lives, not our own egos or desires. Our thoughts can sound an awful light like the Holy Spirit and discerning the difference can be quite difficult. I find that asking myself three questions can help me to understand whether I am following the Holy Spirit or my own will: Does what I am about to do come from a love for all of creation or love of my own goals? Is this new direction a move into comfort or is it a move that feels challenging or uncomfortable? Finally, will this action glorify God or me?
Once we know from whom this wind is blowing, we can then ask ourselves who we need to have walk alongside us in answer to the wind that blows us. When Jesus sent the twelve disciples out, he sent them in pairs. Christian work is rarely solitary work. We work together and with the Holy Spirit.
As we celebrate our name day, Trinity Sunday, it is a good time for us to consider where the Holy Spirit is blowing us. The work of the search committee is to help define who we are today and who we wish to be in the future. The work of the committee members cannot be done in a vacuum; they require the presence of the Holy Spirit and the input of every member of Trinity.
This is an exciting time for Trinity, and we have every reason to celebrate this coming Sunday in the service and at the picnic following. I am grateful to be a part of the work of exploring where the Holy Spirit calls us and look forward to seeing all that can be accomplished with the presence of the Holy Spirit!
[1] I tend to refer to the Holy Spirit as “she,” because ruach [רוּחַ] is the Hebrew feminine noun used in the Hebrew Bible to refer to the Spirit or breath of God. And πνεῦμα or pneuma, the word used in the New Testament, is the Greek neuter noun used for Spirit, wind, or breath of God.
Grace and peace,
—Mother Jenn+

You may donate online at trinitylawrence.org. Click on Donate and then click on the DACA icon. Or, you may write a check to Trinity and put DACA in the memo line.

TEST Tidbits: General Convention’s Green Caucus
The Eighty-first General Convention of The Episcopal Church will be held the week of June 23-28, in Louisville, Kentucky. One of the main tasks is to elect a new presiding bishop (see link).
The Church’s Green Caucus has presented resolutions and memorials and will host a booth in the convention’s exhibit hall. They will provide creation-care information and answer questions. They will also provide a quiet room for reflection using a “green theme.” Scheduled luncheon meetings with speakers will discuss creation-care goals (see Facebook link). One goal (Memorial M006) encourages the body to support the United Nations Global Plastic Treaty to curtail plastic pollution in the world’s oceans. Please read further about the goals of the Green Caucus.
