Support Healthy Beginnings at Home

The Ohio Senate is proposing an 81% cut to Healthy Beginnings at Home, a research project testing the impact of providing rental assistance with housing stabilization services to pregnant women, who are living in highly unstable housing, and are at greater risk of infant mortality.

Women with children are the most likely to face eviction in Cuyahoga County, and it is through this process, they may find themselves in LMM’s family overflow shelter. It is of utmost importance that the state continues to take action to ensure moms, and mom’s to-be have the resources they need to care for themselves and their children.

Reach out to your legislators today to let them know the Ohio Senate’s cut to Healthy Beginnings at Home jeopardizes the effort to demonstrate how housing interventions can save babies’ lives and reduce Medicaid spending:

LMM Signs on to Support OHFA

Gov. DeWine and the Ohio House recently included several positive housing proposals in the proposed 2024-2025 State budget, but the Ohio Senate has removed them and added additional provisions that will stifle development of affordable housing. This includes a plan to abolish the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA), an organization dedicated to the development, rehabilitation and financing of low-to-moderate-income housing in Ohio, and move its operations to the Ohio Department of Development.

Many LMM residents live in properties that were financed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program, which is managed by OHFA. This proposed change could have adverse effects on the availability of future affordable housing projects which remain in high demand.

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry has joined over 200 organizations in signing on to a letter of support of OHFA in advance of the Senate's budget revision, happening Wednesday afternoon.
