Invest in Second Chances and Essential Services

Since 2014, LMM’s Workforce Development (WD) program has been providing vocational training, employment services, and social enterprises for community members who face barriers to the workplace.

Technical training educates participants in the culinary arts and hospitality fields, enabling them to earn credentials that validate their skills. Career Services offers academic advising, career counseling and coaching, and job placement assistance.

WD’s social enterprises, such as Metro45 Mobile Kitchen & Catering, are revenue-generating ventures that provide training and on-the-job experiences for program participants. The food truck also brings quality food and community education to food deserts across the city.

Overall, the WD program has been instrumental in empowering individuals in our community to build better futures for themselves and their families. As we celebrate National Workforce Development Month, please consider supporting the positive changes WD brings to our community.

National Voter Registration Day with LMM

Earlier this week, LMM Community Engagement Coordinator Gloria Craig tabled at the Richard Sering Center and at the Men’s Shelter at 2100 Lakeside as part of National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. Gloria checked staff and program participants’ voter registration status and gave individuals the opportunity to register and/or update their information.

This will be LMM’s third year as a Cleveland Votes Equitable Community Engagement Fund (ECEF) grantee. One of the great benefits of being an ECEF grantee is participating in this civic holiday and providing staff and program participants an opportunity to register to vote. This year, LMM engaged with 18 people altogether, 11 of whom were new registrants.

As a reminder, the deadline to register to vote in the November 7, 2023 election is October 10. For additional information regarding registration deadlines, visit here

Multicultural Women's Health Fair & Empowerment Expo

The MetroHealth System and the Vernon Family Foundation are partnering to present the inaugural Multicultural Women’s Health Fair & Empowerment Expo on September 30, a day dedicated to supporting women from every background and stage of life to take charge of their health, well-being and personal growth.

This event is an example of MetroHealth's commitment to eradicating the health disparities that lead to devastating statistics: Black women, for example, are at a higher risk for many serious health issues, including heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. And they are more than twice as likely to die from complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
