All-Star Families,

Research shows that when students feel connected to their school community, their sense of belonging strengthens. This, in turn, increases school attendance and academic outcomes for students. One of the data points Spokane Public Schools tracks is student engagement in extracurricular activities. Currently, 26% of our students have participated in an extracurricular activity this year. Activities have included cross-country, Hoop Town basketball, talent show, choir, jump rope, and EWU reading clinic.

One of our current extracurricular clubs is the multi-cultural club led by Ms. Colins and Ms. Momono. Each week, students learn about different cultures represented at Adams and around the globe. Their first week, students explored the most populated cities in the world. They also watched a video created by Ms. Momono’s brother and his second-grade students in Japan. Last week, Adams parents Mirela Huremovic and Venesa Dautovic taught students about the cultures of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the geographical location they share. Students learned about the country’s history, geography, traditional dress, and flag. Students were able to enjoy some traditional foods as well!

We plan to offer a number of clubs in the upcoming months. Be on the lookout for information on Dreambox/Lexia Club and Chess Club which will start soon!

Thanks for sharing your greatest gift with us…your child!
