Due to the July 4 holiday, the July confessions study will be bumped back one week to Thursday, July 11th. Hosted at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 18000 Van Aken Blvd, Shaker Heights, Ohio by Rev. Troy Neujahr, beginning at 1:30 PM. The study is a no-pressure, fraternal study with plenty of opportunity for dialogue. Read it in your favorite translation beforehand, or just come and read it with us as we discuss!
We continue to walk through the Formula of Concord (focusing primarily on the Epitome). Last month we only got through a portion of the article, so we will be continuing with the seventh article, “Concerning the Holy Supper of Christ.” This topic is one where all of us find our congregational members often have trouble identifying and articulating the difference between a spiritual eating and drinking and a spiritual and oral eating and drinking. Bonus for this week is also the concept of Capernaitic eating: what does this mean and why do we reject it?
Pastors, please take the opportunity to avail yourself of the benefits of private confession. Those pastors who wish to privately confess their sins and burdens and receive absolution may come at 1:00 PM. The time-honored practice of individual confession and absolution has offered me and other pastors great comfort and relief over the years, and a few pastors have requested the practice be offered before our study. A reminder that all confessions are genuinely private and held under the sacred seal of the confessional, never to be divulged.
