“This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.”

Luke 22:19

September 11, 2023

From the Desk of Mr. Marty Van Hulle, Principal

SAL Parents:

It’s hard to believe that today is the twenty second anniversary of 9/11. I’m sure that nearly all of us can remember exactly where we were when we learned about what was occurring that tragic day. And while it was certainly one of the darkest days we encountered during most of our lifetimes, I fondly recall how the country pulled together to put aside their differences to support and care for one another.  One of the Catholic Social Teaching Themes is that of solidarity which is defined as a feeling of unity or agreement; unfortunately, it seems as though we are becoming more and more divided and segregated as a nation. In order to combat this polarization, the Human Concerns Committee is sponsoring a series of events centered around the theme of “Building a Culture of Dialogue.” As a school and parish staff, we participated in a workshop in late August focused on having “Holy Conversations” with those with whom we disagree. Tonight, at Common Leadership Night, leaders in the parish and school will participate in a similar workshop and the Human Concerns Committee will be hosting other events focused on having us grow closer as a community. We encourage you check the bulletin or the parish website for other opportunities to engage in events focused on the concept of solidarity. Have a great week ahead!

Take care and God bless,

M. Van Hulle

Principal, SAL
