Collect of the Day
Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Feast of All Saints
November 1
|
We plan for a special Feast of All Saints worship service on Nov 1
Guest preacher: Gail Tucker
Communion: Both bread & wine
|
|
|
There is no limit (or sign up) for those who attend by Zoom. But because space in the Nave is limited to 39 maximum (for physical-distancing safety), you must sign-up here in advance to physically attend.
We would like to maximize our physical attendance on All Saints Day partly as a "test run" for our coming Christmas celebrations. So do consider attending in person on Nov 1 -- and don't forget to sign-up here in advance.

Warning: Beware of Fraud
Attempts to defraud good and generous people are on the rise, and are becoming increasingly sophisticated. We should not become overly suspicious or cynical, but we should be careful and diligent.
The IRS and Social Security tell us repeatedly that if we get an email claiming to come from them, warning us of something dire, and instructing us to click on some link, or to verify any information of any kind, or to call some number, that phone call, text, email is a fraud. Do NOT click on any link or verify any information. Do not call the number listed. That is NOT how the IRS and Social Security operate.
Today I received an email addressed to me, allegedly signed by my bishop, that says:
Dear Richard,
I was notified earlier morning from the mayor that there has been an increase with the people suffering from corona virus , And I have decided to donate to the hospital in the community with gift cards for patients who are going through covid-19 infections to help them with their treatment.
So I would like you to help me purchase gifts cards at the nearest store around you on my behalf, because I can’t get them myself because of my busy schedule.
I will pay you back later today in check immediately I’m back to my office including your gas fee and any extra charges attached. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
This email is a scam. We do NOT solicit emergency donations this way; it's NOT how we operate. If you get anything claiming it's from one of us, asking you to respond to some emergency by clicking on a link or buying a gift card, it's a fraud.
Any requests from our Diocese, Bishops, past or present leaders of Christ Church, stewardship appeals, and emergency appeals will always come in the weekly newsletter, and/or the US mail from the church office, and/or will be mentioned by a CCWR leader at public worship. Any and all donations should always be sent to Christ Church West River, PO Box 531, Shady Side MD 20764, whether they are regular donations, special offerings, or for the rector's discretionary fund for emergency relief for the needs of people in our community.
Sincerely,
Rick

Welcome Back to Lisa
Former member of Christ Church, Deacon Lisa Sicilano, serves the Diocese here in our Southern region. Beginning October 25, Lisa will begin sharing her Sundays between two parishes -- including us! Welcome back Lisa!
While her liturgical role as a Deacon will add breadth, depth, variety, and perspective to our public voice (especially in our preaching), Lisa will help expand and deepen our leadership in outreach to the world around us. This is a very exciting development, especially in these confusing and troubled timed when we when tempted to draw back while hunkering down. If you're curious about about God's call to you (us!) to "going forth to love and serve the Lord" in this season, Lisa's coming can help us discover the meaning of "church without walls."

How to Control Your Zoom View
Something new we've learned about Zoom worship: Up until now we've been "spot lighting" particular views to focus on one thing or another. We've learned that some of you prefer to control whether and when you wish to see more faces at once or to focus on one view at a time (perhaps the active speaker, or the Nave, or the Altar). So this week we're transferring total control to YOU! Here's how to control what you see:
(1) If you're using a computer:
- If you choose gallery view, you can see more faces at once.
- If you choose speaker view, the active speaker will fill the screen.
- If you want a particular view to fill the screen other than the active speaker (such as Nave view or Altar view) select the "More" menu in the view you prefer, and, click on "Pin Video." That view will fill your screen until you "unpin video."
(2) If you're using a tablet:
- If you choose gallery view, you can see more faces at once.
- If you choose speaker view, the active speaker will fill the screen.
- If you want a particular view to fill the screen other than the active speaker (such as Nave view or Altar view) tap twice in the view you prefer which will "Pin Video." To "unpin video" tap it twice again.
(3) If you're using a smartphone:
- Swipe left or right to choose gallery or active speaker view.
- If you want a particular view to fill the screen other than the active speaker (such as Nave view or Altar view) tap twice in the view you prefer which will "Pin Video." To "unpin video" tap it twice again.
(4) If you're in the Nave:
Beginning this Sunday, the projection screen in the nave will show ONLY the gallery view, showing more people at once.
(If you want to focus on the active speaker, you may bring your device with you. Gallery view will be on the screen and you can have "active speaker" on your device. If your device is in the nave, your mic MUST remain muted at all times -- to avoid feedback.
How to improve your sound:
Use head phones or accessory speakers. If you're at home alone, head phones or accessory speakers give much better sound than your device alone.
Also.. if you bring your device to the Nave you must use head phones instead of your device's speakers and your mic must remain muted at all time -- to avoid feedback.

We're thinking about how to plan the most meaningful and joyful Christmas worship services -- given the limitations of the 2020 pandemic.
For planning purposes, we must know who would choose to come in person. Remember -- we won't be able to sing carols if we're gathered together. Please let us know whether you prefer to attend in person or by Zoom, and at what time. (Note: This is for early planning purposes only.

We'll send out a sign-up sheet in early December!)
