Annual Meeting is June 23 (If you possess a physical church key please Spencer before then)

Dear Church Family:

You really managed to surprise us both last Sunday with the specular going away party! Thank you so much! Janet had us believing it was a small goodbye at the end of a Cinco de Mayo dinner. We were so surprised by the delicious meal and the fabulous singers who sang to us with songs picked out for their special meanings to us! What a loving thing to do. We were so impressed by each of your talents and song choices. Now when we hear those songs again, we will immediately think of you.

The surprise of the day was a citation from our councilman which officially made us Honorary New Englanders. We loved it! This will be framed and hung on our wall in North Carolina for all to see how proud we are to be part of this wonderful group of people. Years ago as we traveled the country with our children on summer breaks we would sometimes drive up the New England coast through these scenic towns & look at lobster traps & go whale watching, never even suspecting that one day we would have the wonderful experience of living here. And now we are New Englanders! And it is a great honor!

Bill & I really appreciate all the love and help you have given to us over these 14 years. We could not have been with more caring and loving people as we went through the decompression of finally retiring from being church workers since 1967. Our only grandchildren are here, & we needed time to decide where to go & what to do. Going back to Black Mountain, NC is going back home for us. We came there as newlyweds and Bill began his first camp & conference ministry there. Our children were born there & begin pre-school there . Now we are going home, & this wonderful group of "church ladies" showed up at our door, and are making it happen! Life has full circles in many ways, and this is ours.

We will miss each of you, but with our granddaughters are still here we will be back so many times that you’ll be saying to each other, “ Didn’t they say they were moving?” Please know a visit from you in NC would be special for us.

We thank God for our wonderful life, and that you all are part of it! Thank you again for our special good-bye day. We wish Gods blessings on each of you and the life of the church as you minister to the community. This is truly a special place with special people! Con te partio!!

Love

Bill & Glenda Key

PS: Bill actually wrote something, but after reading it I knew I would have to explain him again, so just know he sends his love, especially to all those who laughed at all his jokes for all these years!

Wrestling with Doubt, Finding Faith

by Adam Hamilton

https://www.amazon.com/Wrestling-Doubt-Finding-Faith-Hamilton/dp/1791029981

1pm until 2pm, on-site in Room 1 downstairs at First Church and on Zoom

Wednesdays May 1, 8, 15, 22 ,

Join Pastor Ian in this Book Group to ask:

"Does your faith make room for questions?

Everyone has doubts. Where is God when bad things happen? Does God hear our prayers? Is there a heaven? How can we know? Often, we treat such questions as the enemy of faith. But uncertainty doesn’t mean our belief is lacking. Doubt can be a path to a deeper, richer encounter with God. "

Please let Pastor Ian know you might participate.

The 32nd Annual HAWC Walk & Run is scheduled for Sunday, June 9th.

New Sunday Morning Parking Signage
First Church is experiencing a number of churchgoers being dropped off in the front driveway, and the church council has been asked to address the difficulty they experience negotiating along the lawn and accessing the sidewalk between the parked cars.
As we welcome those who are older or less agile, we are setting aside an area in the front drive limited to “Drop Off/Pick Up Only.”  There will still be a few handicap and other open slots along the curved drive, but the space between the new signs will be a “No Parking" area.  These signs will be placed outside on Sunday mornings only, unless other groups request use of them for their events.
Thank you for your understanding as we continue to work to welcome one and all.
