We look forward to showcasing the achievements of our graduates and celebrating this significant milestone together.

We are excited to launch a new segment in our church newsletter titled "Ask Father". This section will provide an opportunity for our parishioners to engage more deeply with matters of faith and church life. Parishioners are invited to submit their questions about religion and spirituality. Each week, Fr. Aleksandar will select one question to answer, offering insights and guidance. The names of those who submit questions will remain anonymous. We hope this initiative will enrich our collective understanding of Orthodoxy.

Please submit your questions to parishoffice@stsavaboston.org, or drop it off in our church mailbox (hanging on the smaller door on the right when looking at the church from the parking lot).

As you know, I celebrate the Holy Apostle, Protomartyr, and Archdeacon Stephen as my Slava. Since my father is still alive, thank God, he celebrates every year in Valjevo, while I don't—it's been 27 years since I've been abroad. Would it be right for me to start celebrating our Slava, wait to celebrate it after my father's death, or for him to hand it over to me?

The Holy Apostle Paul taught us that the family is the "domestic church." In his Epistle to the Romans, he writes: "Greet Priscilla and Aquila... and their domestic church" (Rom. 16:3-5). Colossian 4:15 reads, "Greet the brothers and Laodicea and Nymphanus and its local church". Saint John the Chrysostom calls the Christian family a "little church". Krsna Slava is a family matter, not connected to a house or building. Therefore, when one family (member) separates and moves to another house or another place, they should continue to celebrate Slava, even though their father and mother are in the old home. It is not in the father's power to dispose of the celebration of the Slava, by "passing" it over to his son, just as a father has no control over his son regarding fasting or taking communion or praying to God. And Slava is a prayer. I must tell you that it is very nice when a son, as a sign of respect for his parent, addresses him anyway, informs him about it, and asks for his blessing, which will undoubtedly make his father happy. As I said, it is from a moral point of view. So, turn to your father, as I suggested, and start celebrating our Holy Apostle, Protomartyr and Archdeacon Stephen...

Са задовољством вам најављујемо нови сегмент у нашем недељном билтену, под именом “Питајте свештеника”. Позивамо парохијане да пошаљу своја питања и недоумице у вези са црквом и верским животом на parishoffice@stsavaboston.org, или их оставите у поштанско сандуче на вратима цркве. Отац Александар ће одговарати на бар по једно питање седмично. Сва питања ће бити објављена анонимно.

Надамо се да ће ова иницијатива допринети бољем разумевању Православља.

Као што знате, мени је Крсна слава Свети Архиђакон и Првомученик Стефан. Будући да ми је отац, хвала Богу још жив, он га у Ваљеву слави сваке године, док ја не - ево има већ 27 година како сам у иностранству. Да ли би било исправно да и ја почнем да славим нашу Славу, или да чекам да је ја славим после смрти оца, или пак, да ми је он преда?

Свети апостол Павле нас је учио да је породица “домаћа црква”. У својој Посланици Римљанима он пише: “Поздравите Прискилу и Акилу…и њихову домаћу цркву” (Рим. 16:3-5). Још: “Поздравите браћу и Лаодикију и Нимфана и његову домаћу цркву” (Кол. 4:15). Хришћанску породицу, коју апостол Павле назива домаћом црквом, Свети Јован Златоусти назива “малом црквом”. Крсна слава је ствар породице, а не куће или зграде. Зато, када се једна породица одели и пресели у другу кућу, или пак одсели у друго место, она треба да настави да слави Славу, без обзира што је отац и мати славе у старом дому. Није у власти оца располагање празновања Крсне славе, да ли хоће или неће да је преда сину, исто као што отац нема власти над сином да ли да овај пости или да се причешћује, и Богу се моли. А Крсна слава је и молитва. Али, морам Вам рећи, да је веома лепо када се син у знаку поштовања према своме родитељу њему ипак обрати, да га о томе обавести, те да од њега заиште благослов, што ће оца свакако да обрадује. Као што рекох, то је са морaлне тачке гледишта. Значи, обратите се своме оцу, као што сам Вам предложио, и почните да славите нашег Светог Апостола, Првомученика и Архиђакона Стефана…

Ко Славу слави, ономе и помаже!

Sunday of Myrrhbearers

Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.

Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away – for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples – and Peter – that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.” So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Дође Јосиф из Ариматеје, поштен саветник, који и сам царство Божје чекаше, и усуди се те уђе к Пилату и заиска тело Исусово. А Пилат се зачуди да је већ умро; и дозвавши капетана запита га: Је ли давно умро? И дознавши од капетана, даде тело Јосифу. И купивши платно, и скинувши Га, обави платном, и метну Га у гроб који беше исечен у камену, и навали камен на врата од гроба. А Марија Магдалина и Марија Јосијина гледаху где Га метаху.

И пошто прође субота, Марија Магдалина и Марија Јаковљева и Соломија купише мириса да дођу и да помажу Исуса. И врло рано у први дан недеље дођоше на гроб око сунчаног рођаја. И говораху међу собом: Ко ће нам одвалити камен од врата гробних? И погледавши видеше да камен беше одваљен: јер беше врло велики. И ушавши у гроб видеше младића обученог у белу хаљину где седи с десне стране; и уплашише се. А он им рече: Не плашите се, Исуса тражите Назарећанина распетог; уста, није овде, ево место где Га метнуше. Него идите кажите ученицима Његовим и Петру да пред вама оде у Галилеју: тамо ћете Га видети, као што вам рече. И изашавши побегоше од гроба; јер их ухвати дрхат и страх; и ником ништа не казаше, јер се бојаху.
