The
Day of Ashura will be celebrated on October 1, insha'Allah. In observance, we encourage everyone to reap the benefits of this day and fast with the intention of seeking atonement for your sins of the past year. We will fast on both the ninth and tenth of Muharram, Sat., Sep. 30 and Sun., Oct. 1.
Ibn 'Abbas reported, "The Messenger of Allah fasted on the day of Ashura and ordered the people to fast on it." The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that the Jews and Christians honor." The Prophet said, "When the following year comes, Allah willing, we shall fast on the ninth."
We invite you to join us for a special
Ashura Program & Community Iftar beginning on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Saleh Kholaki will lead us in a spiritual reflection about Ashura before we pray Maghrib and break our fasts. Dinner has been sponsored by Biryani Kabob House and Desi restaurant. All ages welcome!
Also, please note a change in schedule for this weekend's Sunday Program. Instead of a panel discussion at 12:15 p.m., this week we will be holding a
Health Care Workshop from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. with representatives from Organizing for Action and the National Congress of Black Women San Gabriel Valley. There will be no change to our Parents Circle at 11 a.m. and Highlights of the Quran at 11:45 a.m. with Mahmood Waseeq.
We look forward to seeing you and your loved ones at an Islamic Center event this weekend!
In peace,
