14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

Living in a location where history surrounds you can be wonderful thing. It can also be a rather trying experience.

Having historical tour guides offer their memorized speeches about the dead patriots and American freedom throughout the day and then in the evening during the “Ghost Tours” has taught me the art of tuning out. I’m not proud of this, but it is a coping mechanism that has served me well during these days of increasing numbers of tourists.

These days, during an election year, many of us have learned to tune out certain voices that annoy us and disturb our peace of mind. We may well find ourselves needing to turn off those devices that bring various campaigns to our attention.

May this summer be time of reflection for you. May you enjoy times of quiet to ponder the true freedom that comes with following the way of Christ. I offer the following as food for thought:

“You were called to freedom, brothers and sisters;

only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for

self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.” Galatians 5:13

As always, the latest news and updates are below and in the

Do We have a Yoast for Wordpress Expert in our Midst?

We are working on improving our Google search results and would love to know if we have a Yoast for Wordpress expert in our midst willing to volunteer guidance and help set some things up in Yoast.

If that might be you, please email Patty Simpson at with your experience and she will be in touch with you! Thank you!

Help wanted for One-Time Remote Data Entry Project in Google Sheets

We are looking for someone skilled at accurate data entry for what we think is a 5-10 hour project. If you can work with Google Sheets on your own computer and are willing to help with this project over the next two months, please email Patty Simpson at and she will be in touch with you! Thank you!

Red Line Impacts to Park Street

7/13 - 7/28, including Parking

We have been informed by the City that the Red Line will be closed down from Alewife to Park Street Station after 8:30pm on weekdays and all day on both weekends.

Due to shuttling on Park Street, the street will still be open (thanks to our negotiating with them - they originally wanted to have Park Street entirely closed!), but, except for the ADA spots, there will be no parking on Park Street after 7pm on weeknights and all day/night on those two weekends.

Further information on all MBTA disruptions here.

We need to have faith that one of these years this will all be better! Thanks for persevering to be with us! We really do appreciate it!

Young Adults (18-39) are especially invited to join us feed the hungry at our

Wednesday Night Supper Club on July 17 at 5:30pm or 7:00pm.

We can always use more volunteers of any age, especially in the summer when the local college students are away. Please come any Wednesday at 5:30 to serve or at 7:00 to clean up!

More details on all of these events are in the bulletin.

The Pastoral Council is thrilled to invite you to the annual Paulist Center Welcome Back Community Meeting on Sunday, September 8. It will be held in the basement auditorium from 11:30-1:30pm.

Upcoming Events & Notes

The most comprehensive listing of what's going on at the Paulist Center is in the bulletin. Check it out!

  • Info on this weekend's Community Gift recipient, Angel Flight, offers free air transportation for medical patients who don't have sufficient financial resources.

  • Registration for our Family Religious Education Program (FREP) (including youth sacraments) for the 2024-25 academic year is now open on our website. FREP Kick-off for the new year is September 15!

  • We are asking community members to submit nominations for the 50th Anniversary of the Isaac Hecker Award for Social Justice. Our Hecker Award guidelines can be found here.

  • Young adults (ages 18-39), whether or not they are Catholic, are welcome to schedule a one-on-one conversation with our Young Adult Minister, Gus Kellerman. How can the Paulist Center Community accompany you on your faith journey?

  • We really need your help with our Marriage Preparation program! It is a great spiritual gift to 400-600 couples throughout the Archdiocese of Boston each year. Paulist Center couples who volunteer for this ministry find it very rewarding. It's also a major source of new members and outside income for our community. We can only sustain this important ministry if 10-15 couples can each help for 3 hours on 3 weekends per year. Are you and your partner interested in learning more about what would be involved? If so, contact Fr. Rick. Thanks!
