FEATURED EVENT: Proud to be HSD Festival
A great time was had by all at the second annual Proud to be HSD Festival in downtown Hillsboro on Saturday, May 21. Once again, a highlight of the event was the hilarious Mascot Challenge, which resulted in Captain Crimson from Glencoe High School emerging victorious. Several celebrities participated in the challenge including the Hillsboro Hops' mascot Barley (2015 champion), Portland State's mascot Victor E. Viking and Portland Winterhawks' mascot Tom-a-Hawk. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the event - you make us so proud to be HSD!

Congratulations to our Retirees
This Thursday, May 26, at 4 p.m. in the South Meadows Middle School Library, Hillsboro School District will honor and celebrate its retiring staff members. Most have dedicated decades of their lives to the service of students and families, and for that we are deeply grateful. Many thanks and best wishes for the future to all of our retirees!

¡Sí Se Puede! Summer Technology Camp
Thanks to a grant received by Hillsboro and Forest Grove School Districts, Hilhi will be offering a free technology camp this July for bilingual students in grades 7-12. Called ¡Sí Se Puede!, the camp's goals are to expose native Spanish speakers to career and post-secondary opportunities in the STEM fields, increase their participation in CTE programs of study, and introduce them to state-of-the-art software and technology used in the industry. Click the links to learn more about the grant and the camps.

Vroom Interactive Early Learning Workshop
The District has partnered with Lifeworks Northwest to inform the community about Vroom and early learning strategies to use at home. A free workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 25, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Adelante Mujeres Site and Food Pantry, 1165 SE Walnut St., Hillsboro. Food and childcare will be provided.

Academic and Attendance Push
It's hard to believe, but we are down to the last three-and-a-half weeks of school! Far from being a time to sit back and relax, this is the time to ensure that students are staying focused, turning in any outstanding projects or assignments, and attending school every day. Parents can check on students' progress by accessing ParentVUE and can provide support by reinforcing their expectations of students' behavior and effort.

Did You Know?
May 23-27 is Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The Pacific Northwest offices of the National Weather Service are conducting their annual campaign to raise awareness of and help people prepare for severe weather hazards like flash floods, tornadoes, wind, hail, lightning, wildfires, and heat.
