Lent Sermon Series: The Power of the Gospel
Sundays through March 24
This Sunday's Message:
"Just Say the Word"
Matthew 8:5-13
What are the most powerful forces in the world: gravitational force, electromagnetic force, nuclear force? The Power of the Gospel series for Lent explores the power of the gospel by lifting up some of the key ways Jesus demonstrated his power during his lifetime. By healing, forgiving, raising people from the dead, and walking on water, Jesus declares himself the Son of God and prepares us to witness with fresh eyes his greatest power on Easter morning: his power over life and death for all time and all people. As we study the Gospel of Matthew, our own power to believe and thrive in faith grows as we tap into the power he repeatedly demonstrates.

New Adult Education Series
Sundays, February 25-March 17
10:30 a.m. in Stewart Hall
Led by Dr. Andrew Abernethy
Often, Christians are told, “You need to read the Bible,” but we usually receive no guidance on how to do this and feel lost. In order to read the Bible well, we need an approach for reading it that aligns with the nature of the Bible itself. This four week class draws upon Savoring Scripture: A Six-Step Guide to Studying the Bible (IVP, 2022) to guide us in reading the Bible in a way that not only leads to greater historical understanding but ultimately to communion with God and faithful living.

Refugee Journey Simulation
Sunday, March 3

We hear stories in the news about refugees fleeing their homes because of war or unsafe conditions. But what is that really like? Join us for a simulation experience hosted by Exodus World Service, one of our local mission partners. In this interactive experience for all generations, you will learn about who refugees are and gain a better understanding of a refugee’s complex journey. This is an excellent way to learn about an organization First Pres supports with volunteers and financial giving. Refreshments are provided. Please RSVP here by Wednesday, February 28.

Presbyterians in Partnership – Per Capita
All churches are invited to support the mission of the PC(USA), our larger church family. You can help First Pres to fulfill this Per Capita commitment by making a contribution of $36.50 for each church member in your family in addition to your regular giving.
