From Our Senior Minister

Naples UCC Family,

There is a great irony about what it was that made Jesus so powerful. According to the Apostle Paul, Jesus emptied himself taking on the nature of a servant. This humility and selflessness led to Jesus being exalted in the highest of ways (Philippians 2: 6-9).

Along these lines, I recently read an observation that I thought was quite telling: "Good churches keep score by how much money they take in. Great churches keep score by how much money they give away." What a joy it is to be part of a church with a servant heart that is so generous toward needs in our community!

Attached below is the summer newsletter for the Collier County Community Foundation. On page 8, an article speaks of Naples UCC and its amazingly generous gift toward the Homebuyer's Academy—an affordable initiative that will help many in their journey toward purchasing a safe and affordable home.

I look forward to being with you for worship on Sunday!

In Christ,

Pastor Mark

Steeple Fellowship

What Does YOUR Future Hold?

From time to time, we all wonder what the future holds for us, our families and those places and things that matter the most to us. After a life well lived, we hope to be remembered…but for what? When we are gone, what legacy will we leave behind?

Here at Naples UCC, each of us has an opportunity to plan for our legacy to the Church by including NUCC in our estate plans. There are different ways to make such provisions by selecting the manner most appropriate for our respective families and our own personal financial circumstances.

Most people choose to plan their gift for inclusion in the Church’s endowment at the time of their passing. In that way, all the details can be discussed with family members and arranged with legal and financial advisors well in advance of when the gift is received.

Many generous members and friends of NUCC have already made such provisions. They are all included (141 at current count!) in the Steeple Fellowship, either by name or anonymously, as they have chosen to be recognized. A member can be identified when wearing their small gold lapel pin depicting the NUCC steeple. They meet at occasional times to socialize and hear news of the church and its outlook for the future.

Perhaps you might like to consider joining them. If so, it’s as simple as contacting Rev. Dr. Mark Williams at the Church. You can look forward to a pleasant conversation and perhaps consideration of how your legacy can live on in perpetuity at Naples UCC.

Cans for Communion

Donations of nonperishable food items for the Grace Place Food Pantry will be collected on Sunday before the service. A list of food items needed is available at www.graceplacenaples.org/food-pantry/. Though we are grateful for your donations please NO GLASS, as carefully as we try to pack the boxes, glass containers can break. Grace Place currently serves 300 families weekly. Volunteers who wish to help unload donations from arriving cars can sign up by calling the church office. Thank you for your generosity!

Grace Place Backpacks Blessing

Join us in Blessing Backpacks for Grace Place Students on Sunday, July 14.

The Board of Mission and Outreach is happy to announce we collected over 34 backpacks for the elementary students at Grace Place and the Golden Gate Community. Not only is each backpack filled with essential school supplies, but it also includes a very special note from one of our own NUCC children sending good wishes for the year. As a result of this collaborative effort with the NUCC Children’s Ministry and the generosity of our congregation, the Grace Place elementary children will start the school year well prepared with a message of care and kindness. Please join us on Sunday, July 14 for the blessing of the backpacks.
