Happening This Week

This Sunday in worship, we will welcome many guests for our annual Child Development Center (CDC) Celebration Sunday. Expect a vibrant service including a choir of Pre-Kindergarten students singing for us! We will give thanks to the many teachers, staff, and board members who make our Child Development Center thrive by their service, and we'll welcome many children and families who are served by the CDC each week. Anticipate a very brief message, many visitors, and much youthful energy in our sanctuary this week. Please come and be encouraged by how much we appreciate one another and the success of the center.

A *Special Sunday School Presentation* is being held in the Lamplighter's Classroom at 9:00 AM this Sunday, and all adults are encouraged to join, regardless of your usual Sunday School attendance. Katallasso Family Health Center will be our Advent/Christmas Offering project this year, and this presentation will inform us of their work. Katallasso is based in this congregation's former church building, located at King St and Belvidere Ave in York City. More information is below. See you there!

Live Stream Worship

Our worship services are available via YouTube for those who wish to join that way. Click the link above to join us before 10:30 AM Sunday or anytime afterward. DVD copies of the services are also available.

Katallasso is a wonderful faith-based operation located in the previous First Church of the Brethren building on 38 South Belvidere Avenue, York, PA. We intend to support their work through our special Advent and Christmas Eve offering project.

Their mission is for the uninsured families of our community to encounter the love of Jesus. Through compassionate healthcare our hope is to see them restored physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Katallasso exists to love people the way that God loves people. Sacrificially and unconditionally. We are nothing more than the extended hands and feet of God to those in need.

Thank you so much for your cards, concern, and prayers during my recent illness. Barbara and I really appreciated all of your support during this time.

~Terry & Barb Wueschinski

A healthy baby girl, Elouise Mae, was born to Brianna and Matt Herbst this Monday October 30. Proud big brothers are Bennett and Finnley, and aunt and uncle Katie and Daniel McEvoy are delighted as well. We give thanks to God for this precious gift of life and celebrate the growth of the Herbst family!

Since 2011 our Witness Team has sponsored the Cash for Causes program by selling Giant & Weis gift cards. The church receives 5% of sales to support various ministries. For 2023 the gift card sales will support The Lehman Center (Children’s Aid Society), New Community Project, and Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry. You may purchase the cards in amounts of $100, $50, $25, or $10. The cards make great gifts, especially at holidays. Consider donating cards to the Food Pantry or using them yourself any time you shop at Giant or Weis.

If you’d like to support this program, please see Becky Wenger before/after worship service OR mail your check (paid to York First Church) to 3011 Bedford Pl, York, PA 17408 and your cards will be mailed to you.

SNOWDEN LECTURE: Philip Asura Nggada, EYN

Celebrating 100 Years of Brethren Witness in Nigeria

Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, is the largest national body of the Church of the Brethren in the world. The origins of this church date to 1923 and the preaching, teaching, and medical ministry of Brethren missionaries in Garkida and surrounding areas. Philip Asura Nggada will share key developments in the history of the church, which moved from being a missionary enterprise to an independent indigenous church. Major events include national independence in 1960, the transfer of mission institutions to Nigerian control in 1972, and the growth and spread of the church since that time. The attacks from Boko Haram since 2011 produced much suffering but also sent the church into neighboring Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, where EYN is now organizing beyond Nigeria.

Philip Asura Nggada is a reader (associate professor) in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Jos, Jos, Nigeria, where he has been a faculty member since 2014. He previously taught at Kulp Theological Seminary in Kwarhi and at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria in Bukuru. He is the author of numerous articles and two books, including The Shepherd Motif in the Old Testament (2012).

Use GPS address: 450 Campus Rd, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 which brings you near the entrance to the parking lot of the fully accessible Young Center. For further details and directions to the lecture, visit www.etown.edu/youngctr/events or call 717-361-1470.
